Easter & The Resurrection (2): The Story of the Resurrection

Prayer:

Song: "Did Jesus Really Live Again" - Primary Children's Songbook - Page 64.

"The Story of the Resurrection": I showed my boys (ages: 2 1/2 & 11 months) pictures from our Gospel Art Book to teach them the story of Jesus' resurrection. If you don't have a gospel art book, you can print them or show them on a computer from the links provided. You can also find summaries and print similar coloring pages here.
  • Picture #1 - Birth of Jesus: When Jesus Christ was born, His parents loved Him very much. They took good care of Him and taught Him about Heavenly Father and what is right.
  • Picture #2 - Jesus Praying with his Mother: When Jesus was a little child, He listened to his mom and dad and did what was right. He even taught adults some wonderful things about Heavenly Father's gospel, even though He was a little boy.
  • Picture #3 - John Baptizing Jesus: When Jesus was grown up, He was baptized by John the Baptist. Although He was perfect and had not sinned, He showed us the right thing to do when He was baptized.
  • Picture #4 - Christ with Children: Jesus taught the people about love, faith, repentance, forgiveness, and prayer. He performed many miracles and always made time to bless and talk to the children.

  • Picture #5 - Jesus Praying in Gethsemane: Jesus knew that in order to fulfill his mission on earth, He would soon suffer and die. He would do this for us, so we could be forgiven of our sins and one day return to live with Heavenly Father again. One night, shortly before He would die, He went and prayed to Heavenly Father in the Garden of Gethsemane. He said that He was willing to do whatever Heavenly Father asked Him. It was there that Jesus suffered for our sins and felt a great amount of pain.
  • Picture #6 - The Crucifixion: Following the atonement, Jesus was arrested, tried unjustly, and crucified. After hanging on the cross for six hours, he said, "It is finished: and bowed his head, and gave up the ghost (died)."

  • Picture # 7 - Burial of Jesus: Jesus was buried in a tomb, and the people that loved Him were very sad.

  • Picture # 8 - Why Weepest Thou: Three days after Jesus died, He rose from the dead (resurrected) and visited His apostles and loved ones.

  • Picture #9 - Resurrected Christ Emerging Garden Tomb: This picture is not in the gospel art book. I love this picture and have a copy of it at our home, which I showed my boys. I told them that Easter is a wonderful time of year to remember Jesus and His resurrection. We see a lot of bunnies and eggs, which all remind us of new life, which Jesus has given us.

Resurrection Activity: Choose one of the following activities below:
  • Option One - Jesus Coming out of the Tomb Door: You can print "Jesus Coming out of the Tomb Door" from the current nursery manual. After coloring and cutting out the pictures, my two loved putting Jesus inside the tomb and pulling Him out of the tomb. Every time my two pulled Jesus out of the tomb, we would say "Jesus was Resurrected". We always focusing on how Jesus came out of the tomb and lives again.

  • Option Two - Dye Easter Eggs: Remind children of how eggs remind us of the resurrection. Eggs represent new life, just as Jesus was resurrected and made it possible for us to be resurrected. Hint: Place a hard boiled egg in a large whisk to help toddlers easily dip their eggs in dyed water.
  • Option Three - Make Resurrection Rolls. These were delicious! Click the link for the recipe and to view symbolism of the resurrection and resurrection rolls. Teach your children the symbols as you make these rolls together.

Testimony: Add your testimony of the principles taught in the lesson today. Explain your gratitude for the Savior and the resurrection.
