Month #8: SAMUEL (Teach Others about Jesus)

Prayer : Song : " I Am Like a Star " Children's Songbook page 163. Optional: Cut out a yellow card stock star and tape it onto a popsicle stick. Have your child(ren) wave them back and forth while singing the song. Intro : Before the lesson, we talked about Jesus and how some people in the world don't know about Him. That's why we have missionaries - to teach others about Jesus. We can also be "missionaries" at home by teaching our friends about Jesus. Prayer : Intro : Before the lesson, talk about the word "brave". To be brave means being able to do something even though it may seem scary. Give a few examples of when your child has been brave. Prayer : Intro : Before our lesson today, we talked about what an "example" means and more specifically about being a good example. I have two boys (ages: 3 & 1), so this summary was perfect for my three year old. "An example is someone who shows other what to do. A leader. Have you noticed how your little brother copies everything you do? You're an example to him. He watches how you act and when you do good things and wants to do the same."  Song :  " Do as I'm Doing " from the Children's Songbook. Talk about being an example or leader while singing this song. Have one person to be the "example" and choose how to sing the song (clap hands, stomp feet, roll arms, etc.) and have everyone follow what the example does. Prayer : Intro : Before the lesson, talk about the word "obedience". To obey means to do what someone asks you to do. When we obey, it keeps us safe and happy. We talked about why we have to wear helmets riding bikes and hold hands in the road. It's important to obey our parents and Heavenly Father. Song : " Nephi's Courage " Children's Songbook page 120. We're planning on singing this song randomly throughout the month as a reminder of our Book of Mormon Hero! Review the order of prayer (if needed) and make sure your children know that Heavenly Father loves us and listens to our prayers. Song : " A Prayer Song " from the Children's Songbook. This song includes everything a toddler needs to know about prayer - we bow our heads, fold our arms, close our eyes and talk to Heavenly Father.
