Letter M: Alphabet Jug Match, Letter M Book, Letter M Handprint Art (Monkey), Letter M Music Time (Day 1)

1) Alphabet Jug Match: Easton had so much fun reviewing the alphabet with this alphabet letter match activity! You'll need:
  • Empty Carton (orange juice, milk, etc.)
  • Plastic Letters A-Z (from the dollar store)
  • White Paper with written letters A-Z
  1. Place all the plastic letters into the empty carton.
  2. Pour 1-3 letters onto your child's hand and have your child match them to the correct letters on paper. Help as needed.
  3. You can also review letter sounds or use this idea as a shape or number activity as well!

2) Letter M Book from The Measured Mom: Read this short picture book together pointing out the Letter M and talking about details in the pictures.

Letter M Nursery Rhyme Activites: To go along with our rhymes, I printed and laminated free images of the "Five Little Monkeys". I placed magnets on the back of the pictures and used a magnetic cookie sheet to tell the nursery rhyme. I liked using this idea to reinforce numbers as well. We also made muffins today to go along with "The Muffin Man".

  • Cut out a vine and glue it on.
  • Paint your child's hand brown and stamp it onto the paper, making sure his/her fingers stamped on the vine.
  • When the paint dries, cut out the monkey features (head, eyes, nose, ears and tail) from construction paper and have your child glue them on.

4) Letter M Songs:
  • Muffin Man: Place toy animals in a paper bag. Have your child draw an animal and act out the animal while singing this song. (ie: elephant - march around the room, bird - flap your arms, etc.)
Do you know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man.
Do you know the muffin man,
Who lives on Drury Lane.

Yes, I know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man.
Yes, I know the muffin man,
Who lives on Drury Lane.

  • Miss Muffet: Tuffets are hard cushions, but we used pillows instead. Set out pillows in a circle and jump from tuffet to tuffet as you sing this song (idea from Toddler Approved).
Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet
Eating her curds and whey
Along came a spider
Who sat down beside her
Who scared Miss Muffet away.

  • Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed: Print the Five Little Monkeys to use while singing this song, or act it out - Easton loves singing this song while jumping up and down on the couch.
Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
No more monkeys jumping on the bed.

(repeat with four, three, two and one little monkeys)

  • Mulberry Bush (Pop Goes the Weasel): Fill up ten large balloons with air. One child gets to be the "weasel" and he/she carries the balloon around while the other children "the monkeys" chase after her. Sing the song together and when you say "POP!" the child with the balloon gets to pop the balloon by sitting on it or with a toothpick.
All around the mulberry bush,
The monkey chased the weasel.
The monkey thought twas all in fun,
POP! goes the weasel.
