Letter L: L is for Letters, Letter Hunt, Letters Sensory Bin (Day 2)

1) L is for Letters Craft: I bought letter stickers at the Dollar Tree and we used them to fill in the Big Letter L on our paper. This was a good activity to review all the letters of the alphabet!

2) Letter Hunt
  • Preparation: Hide letters (plastic, foam, or paper) around the house, each with a clue. The clues will lead your child to the next letter and clue.
  • Start by giving your child the first clue. It could say something along the lines, "Welcome to your letter hunt! The first letter you'll find is hidden where you sleep." Your child will find the Letter A with a clue to find the Letter B.
  • Optional: Have a treat or prize waiting for them at the end of the hunt. It could be a bag of these letter cookies

(picture to come)

3) Letters Sensory Bin: Easton loved this! We played for over an hour.
  • Fill a bin full of dried black beans, rice and/or lentils.
  • Bring out play kitchen items (measuring cups and spoons, bowls, cookie cutters, spatulas, whisks, tongs, funnels, etc.)
  • Add plastic letters.
  • Easton decided he wanted to make letter soup, so we brought our Mickey Mouse outside.
  • Practice pouring, scooping, tweezing and a lot of pretend play.
  • Ask questions like, "What color is the Letter P?" or "Which letter is Mickey eating now?" to reinforce letter names and colors.
