This lesson is based on the nursery manual, Behold Your Little Ones. Click the link to view the original lesson, "I Love my Family", on LDS.org.

Prayer:

Scripture: Ephesians 1:6 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth." After reading these verses, we discussed how important it is to be kind and loving toward mom, dad and other family members.

Song: "A Happy Family" (Primary Children's Songbook page 197) Click here to sing along. We used the suggested actions from the manual:

I love mother; she loves me (place hand on chest)
We love daddy, yes sirree; (nod head up and down)
He loves us, and so you see (extend arms)
We are a happy family (hug self)

I love sister; she loves me (place hand on chest)
We love brother, yes sirree; (nod head up and down)
He loves us, and so you see (extend arms)
We are a happy family (hug self)

Picture: We showed the picture of a family from the manual. We talked about their smiles and how happy they looked. Then, we related this family to our family. Heavenly Father gave Easton a happy and loving family, too. We can show love for each other by being nice and helpful.

Picture: I showed Easton the picture below of Jesus and Mary (from the manual). I paraphrased these words from the manual, "Point to Jesus and tell the children that this is a picture of Jesus when He was a child. Point to Mary and say that this is Jesus' mother. Explain that Jesus had a loving family who took good care of Him when He was small, and He loved His family very much. Suggest ways the children can show love for their mothers (by smiling, helping clean up, giving a hug, and so on). Invite them to pretend to do those things."

Bag Activity: I printed and cut out pictures of our family members (mom, dad, baby Connor, grandparents, cousins). I placed them in a paper bag. Easton drew a picture and we discussed specific ways he could show love to that person. For instance, when he drew a grandparent we talked about giving them a big hug. When he drew a cousin, we talked about sharing toys. You can print your own family pictures or the picture below (from in manual) for this activity.

Testimony: I quickly reviewed the main points of our lesson and told Easton how happy it makes Heavenly Father when we are kind and show love to our family.
