Letter H: Hippo Cut & Paste, Size Ordering, Hippo Push Pin Activity, Hippo Floor Numbers, Hippo Color Matching Puzzles (Day 2)
The following Hippo Ideas come from an amazing blog (with free printables!). Check out Confessions of Homeschooler to print the activities below. Aside from the craft, I'll put the activities in plastic baggies for Easton to choose from.
- Hippo Cut & Paste: Option: Paint the background and let it dry before gluing the hippo on.
- Hippo Size Sorting: Compare two cards - which one is bigger, which one is smaller? Add a third card and talk about their sizes. Help your child put them in order from smallest to biggest. Review colors as you go!
- Hippo Push Pin Activity: Print the hippo below and draw a dotted Letter H in the middle with a black marker. Have your child poke holes in the letter H with a pushpin (or toothipick!). You also have the option of using this as a lacing card.
- Hippo Large Floor Numbers:
- Place the cards in numerical order. Have your child stand on his/her number of choice. Have your child identify the letter and do the action that goes along with the number. Remove the number after it has been chosen. (1: Spin like a hippo. 2: Touch your toes. 3: Stick out your tongue. 4: Jump like a hippo. 5: Lay on your back. 6: Clap your hands behind your back. 7: Stand on your tip toes. 8: Dance like a hippo. 9: Wiggle your tail like a hippo. 10: Snort like a hippo.)
- Throw a bean bag hippo onto the numbers. See how far your child can throw.
- Play Hippos Says. "Hippo says jump to the number four." This is a version of Simon Says.
- Hippo Color Matching Puzzles: Cut each hippo in half and have your child put them together.
- Optional: Hippo Number Practice. Laminate these number cards and have child practice writing numbers.
