Christmas Symbols: Scavenger Hunt

PLEASE NOTE: UPDATED VERSION 2019. Please view: Christmas Symbols Scavenger Hunt

Prayer:

Song: "Picture a Christmas" Children's Songbook page 50. We sang along while we watched "Picture a Christmas" on Youtube (pictured below).

Christmas Symbols: My two year old has seen a lot of Christmas Symbols this year. I want him to begin to understand that all the symbols remind us of the Savior. I printed and cut out a Christmas Tree & Symbols Printable (see image below) and put them all into a brown, paper sack. I pulled the Christmas tree out first and simply explained how Christmas Trees remind us of Jesus (the explanations are found below). My two drew the remaining symbols out of the paper bag, placed the symbol on the tree, and we briefly explained each symbol.

Christmas Tree: The top of the tree points toward the sky, or heaven, where Jesus lives.

Star: The star reminds us of the new star in the sky when Jesus was born.

Candle: The candle reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world.

Wreath: Ask, "What shape is the wreath?" The circle goes around and around. It reminds us that Jesus made it possible to live together with our families forever.

Santa Ornament: Santa is kind and always giving to others. He reminds us of how kind Jesus is.

Holly Leaf: The holly leaf reminds us Jesus' sacrifices for us. He loves us so much.

Gift: Ask, "Who brought gifts to Jesus?" Gifts remind us of the three gifts the wisemen brought to Jesus.

Candy Cane: The candy cane reminds us of the shepherds' cane. Jesus is our shepherd. We will always be happy if we follow and obey Him.

Bell: Did you know that some sheep wear bells on their collars? The bells remind us of sheep. Just like the sheep, Jesus loves and cares for us. He will always help us and be there for us.

Christmas Symbols Scavenger Hunt: Prior to our family home evening, I printed and cut out these Scavenger Hunt Clues (pictured below) and hid them around the house. Notice how the symbols are the same as the activity above. I love how the clues are already done and written out for you.

Testimony: Tell your children your testimony of Jesus and a special Christmas experience you remember.
