Letter F: F is for Frog, Frog Shape Clip Cards, Feed the Frog, Hatch a Frog Egg (Day 4)

1) F is for Frog Craft from Crystal & Comp:
  • Green, black and white Construction Paper
  • White Piece of Paper
  • Black Paper
  • Light Green Office Stickers (optional)
  • Red Yarn
  • Washable Black Paint
  • Glue
  1. Cut out the eyes, a big letter F, and frog legs from your green paper. If you'd like, you can print a template from the link provided.
  2. Have your child place the office stickers on the Letter F.
  3. Glue on the Letter F, frog legs and eyes. Next, glue on the red yarn, as the tongue.
  4. Have your child use his finger, dipped in black paint, and stamp it on his/her paper as the flies.

2) Frog Shape Clip Cards from Making Learning Fun: Aren't these adorable?
  • Place one card in front of your child and have him/her identify the shape and color.
  • Use a small plastic bingo chip, finger, or another manipulative to find its match.

Feed the Frog from Therapy Fun Zone: You'll need:
  • Empty Parmesan Cheese Container
  • 2 Large Pom Poms
  • Googly Eyes
  • Glue Gun
  • Pretend Flies or small colored or  black pom poms (really, anything you'd like!)

4) Hatch a Frog: You'll need to buy a Life Cycle Frog Set for this activity.
  • Show your child these frog life cycle pictures and explain the order of the cards (leave the cards out while doing the remainder of the activity).
  • Ask them if they'd like to hatch a frog egg. I'm assuming every child will say, yes!
  • Build a Home for your Frog. We'll use a large plastic/glass container, small rocks, plastic plants, etc. Fill up the container with water.
  • Place your frog eggs in the container (reference back to the frog egg picture card).
  • While doing the craft or other activity, switch out the frog eggs for the tadpole. Exclaim that the eggs have hatched! Your toddler will come running over to see. Talk about what the tadpole looks like and reference back to the tadpole picture.
  • Later, switch out the tadpole for mature tadpole. Exclaim that the tadpole has legs! Reference back to the picture cards. Ask your child what they think will happen next.
  • Continue the process until there's a frog in the cage.
(picture to come)
