Letter E: Egg Stamping, Oviparous Egg Hunt, Egg Wiggle Game, Egg Counting Mats (Day 5)

1) Egg Stamping: Draw a block letter E on a piece of paper. Have your child dip the top or bottom half of some plastic eggs in tempera paint and stamped it onto your letter E.

2) Oviparous Egg Hunt from Preschool Mom: Before reading "Chickens Aren't the Only Ones" from our Letter E Booklist ask your child if he/she knows any animals that lay eggs? Read the book and do the activity afterward. You'll need:
  1. Place the animal cards inside the eggs (one per egg) and hide the eggs around the room.
  2. Have your child go on a hunt for the eggs.
  3. Once he/she finds an egg, open it up and glue the picture onto your large egg. Talk about the animal.
  4. Repeat until all the eggs are found.

3) Egg Wiggle Game from Preschool Alphabet: This is a spin on charades. You'll need:
  1. Glue the animal pictures onto your paper eggs (one picture per egg).
  2. Place the eggs on the ground, with the picture face down.
  3. Have your child draw an egg and identify the animal.
  4. Have your child act like the animal. ie: roar like a dinosaur, spin like a butterfly, jump like a frog, etc.

4) Egg Counting Mats from The Measured Mom: Have your child place the same amount of eggs in the nest as needed. Letter E was the first letter I taught to my 18 month old. Because he didn't know how to count yet, I showed him how to do this activity. The picture below is the same child (just turned three) doing the counting mats.
