Letter I: Painting with Ice, Ice Cube Coloring Mixing, Build Ice Shapes, Ice Block Sliding (Day 4)

1) Painting with Ice from 733 Blog:
  • Ice Cube Tray
  • Food Coloring
  • Toothpicks (we are going to use craft sticks)
  • White Card Stock
  • Optional: You could also try freezing washable paint in the ice cube tray.

2) Ice Cube Color Mixing: Mix ice cubes together in warm water to reveal a new color.

3) Build Ice Shapes: Use toothpicks and marshmallows to build shapes together with your child.
  • Help your child make various shapes out of toothpicks and marshmallows (triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, trapezoid).
  • Prepare a sheet of paper with drawn shapes. Have your child match the ice shapes to the shapes on your paper.
  • Build an igloo (an ice home!) with your toothpicks and marshmallows and pretend play.

4) Play Don't Break the Ice: I learned all Easton wanted to do is play with the ice pieces. He mostly liked putting the end of the hammer in the ice cube, but you can stack them, count them, make shapes out of them, etc. Give you child some time to explore if this game is new for you. If he/she is read, set up the ice and let your child hammer the pieces down.

5) Go Ice Block Sliding: If the weather is nice, buy a large block of ice from the grocery store. Go to a park with a big hill, place a small towel on the ice to sit on and slide down the hill!
