Letter S - Snail Crafts, Spice Craft, Size Ordering

Snail Craft #1 (sun catcher): I love coffee filter/sun catcher crafts! We hadn't tried using washable markers to make one yet, so it was fun to try that technique today. I found a similar idea on no time for flashcards. Here's what you need:

Large, White Coffee Filter
Washable Markers
Spray Bottle with Water
Green Construction Paper (snail body)

1. Put the coffee filter on an art table and let your child draw all over the coffee filter with washable markers (picture one).
2.  Spray the entire coffee filter with water, so the colors bleed together (picture two and three).
3. Let the coffee filter dry - I usually place mine in between two pieces of paper towels, so it dries quickly.
4. Cut out a snail body from green construction paper and glue the snail body onto the coffee filter (picture four).
5. Hang the snail up in the window and watch the sun shine through the coffee filter.

Snail Craft #2 (finger painting): My mother-in-law bought Easton the most amazing Color Wonder Finger Paints (see first picture below from Amazon's website). The finger paint is clear (so it won't get on clothes, carpet, etc.) and the color only shows on the color wonder paper provided in the kit. Easton had a great time finger painting. I saved one of his papers and cut a circle out to make a shell for another snail craft. I glued the shell onto a "snail body" cut from green construction paper.

Spice Craft: I found this idea on the Letter S Crafts list on the measured mom blog. I searched through my spices and bought a few cheap ones from the grocery store to use for this craft. I mixed a small amount of glue and water together in a bowl and painted the glue/water mixture onto a piece of white card stock. I let Easton go to town and sprinkle spices all over our paper. Here's our finished project:

S is for Size Sorting: I found Size Sorting Ideas on the measured mom blog, and loved some of her suggestions for size sorting. Here are the activities we did:

- Books: We read Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Best Bug Parade, The Enormous Potato, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff to talk about different sizes.

- Tools: We put dad's tools in order by size. Our favorite things to sort were the wrenches and bolts.

- Size Sorting Toys: We played with our Stacking Cups, Size Sorting PuzzlesRing Stacker, and Bear Counters. We discussed sizing as we played with our toys. Some of the pictures below are from Amazon's website.
