Letter D: Dinosaur Craft, Dinosaur Color Match & Counting Cards, Dinosaur Dig Excavation (Day 5)

Choose one of the following dinosaur crafts:

1) Dinosaur Shape Craft from Totally Tots: I found this idea on the Letter D Crafts list from The Measured Mom. I like that this craft is a shape review - rectangle (legs), circle (head), triangle (plates), oval (tail), and body (dome). Did you notice the dinosaur's body is also in the shape of a sideways Letter D?
  • Have your child identify the shapes before gluing them.

1) Paper Plate Dinosaur from The Craft Train: I found this idea from the Letter D Crafts list on The Measured Mom. Click the title "Paper Plate Dinosaur" to print the dinosaur templates and view a detailed tutorial with pictures. You will need:
  • Dinosaur Templates (print from link provided)
  • Paper Plates (cut in half)
  • Paintbrush
  • Elmer's Glue
  • Glitter
  • Bowl
  • Goggly Eyes
  1. Paint glue onto a paper plate
  2. Have your child dump his/her desired color of glitter onto the paper plate. Allow glue to dry.
  3. Glue on your dinosaur template and goggly eyes.

Dinosaur Number Clip Cards from The Kindergarten Connection:

Dinosaur Dig Excavation from Mom Inspired Life: Easton is going to love this! You'll need:
  • dinosaur skeletons
  • Cornstarch
  • Water
  • Plastic Containers - large enough to hold a dinosaur skeleton
  • Tools for excavating (hammer, screwdriver, brush, etc.)
  1. Mix cornstarch and water together in a plastic container. It depends on how much you want, but it's about a 2:1 ratio. ie: 2 cups of cornstarch and 1 cup of water.
  2. Add a dinosaur skeleton into the container and push it to the bottom of the container. Repeat for other containers.
  3. Put the containers outside in the sun to harden for a day or two.
  4. When you're ready to play, bring one container out at a time. Give them tools and let them go to work!
  5. Match the dinosaur bones to play dinosaurs.
  6. You can reuse the dinosaur skeletons and play with them in sand, dirt, rice or any type of base.
