Letter D: Tissue Paper Duck, "Where's the Duck?", Duck Pond Pretend Play, Feed the Ducks (Day 2)

1) Tissue Paper Duck from The Measured Mom: I thought this craft is adorable. You can find and print a  duck outline by clicking on the title "Tissue Paper Duck". You could glue on white feathers instead of tissue paper if you'd like. Here's what you need:
  • Yellow Construction Paper w/duck outline
  • Goggly Eye
  • Orange Beak
  • White Tissue Paper - we bought ours at the Dollar Store
  • Elmer's Glue

2) "Where's the Duck?" Color Game: I think Easton will love this game! You could use this activity with a magnet board or flannel board, but it would be just as fun on the floor. You'll need:
  • Paper Duck Cut Out
  • Colored Paper or Colored Flannel Sheets (choose 6 or more different colors to review)
  • Black Marker
  1. Use a marker to draw a barn on each piece of colored paper - it can be a simple door and window.
  2. Lay the barns on the floor and hide the duck under one of the barns, without your toddler watching. You can lay out two barns or as many as you'd like at a time.
  3. Have your toddler guess which barn the duck is under. Have him/her ask, "Is it under the (color) barn?"
  4. Lift up the barn to see if the duck is there. I'll most likely give Easton a little treat each time he chooses the correct barn.
  5. Have your child hide the duck for you!
(picture to come)

3) Duck Pond Pretend Play from Fantastic Fun & Learning: I love how all the items are out and available for toddlers to use. Normally, I bring out items one at a time, so this will be something new to try. Here is a list of options to use:
  • Rubber Ducks
  • Rocks (dollar store)
  • Glass Gems (dollar store)
  • Aquarium Rocks and Plants
  • Drift Wood
  • Plastic Bin
  • Water
  • Blue Food Coloring
  1. Talk about which items float and sink
  2. Count the ducks or rocks together
  3. Pretend Play
  4. Sing "Five Little Ducks went out to Play" from our Letter D music time

4) Feed the Ducks: Go to a nearby park and feed the ducks.
