Letter O: Help the Letters Obstacle Course, Letter O Book, Letter O Handprint Art (Octopus), Letter O Songs (Day 1)

1) Help the Letters Obstacle Course: Use items you already have at home to make an obstacle course.
  • Here are some Ideas: Little Tikes Slide, hula hoops from the Dollar Store, art table to climb under (from Ikea), bouncing horse toy, tunnel, couch cushions, ottoman, and a basketball hoop.
  • Place foam or plastic letters at the beginning of the obstacle course. Tell your child, "The letters need help reaching the end of the obstacle course. Can you help them!?"
  • Have your child identify the letter before, during or after the obstacle course. You could even take a few letters at a time if you want. Time your child.

2) Letter O Book from The Measured Mom: Identify the pictures and big Letter O on each page.
(picture to come)

3) Letter O Handprint Art (Octopus): Remember to keep these to put into a book at the end of the series.
  • Paint both of your child's hands blue (except for the thumb) and stamp them onto a piece of paper.

Letter O Songs:
  • Open Shut Them: Use actions while saying this rhyme.
Open, shut them, open, shut them
(open and shut your hands)
Give a little clap.
(clap)
Open, shut them, open, shut them,
(open and shut your hands)
Put them in your lap.
(place hands in your lap)
  •  I found our Letter O Songs on the measured mom blog. I printed them all and we sang our favorites all throughout the week: Open Shut Them, Over the River and through the Woods.
