Letter I: Booklist

Here are our favorite books for Letter I:

Imogene's Antlers by David Small: This is a book that both my boys (ages 3, 1) and I loved. It's about a girl, named Imogene, that wakes up and realizes she has grown antlers. It's hard to do all sorts of things including getting dressed, walking through doorways and going downstairs. After a long day, Imogene falls sleep and wakes up in the morning and the antlers are gone! When she walk in the kitchen, her parents are thrilled until they realize what has grown instead.

Manana Iguana by Ann Whitford Paul: Another favorite at our house this week. This book came with a CD to read along with, which my boys both enjoyed. This book is a version of The Little Red Hen. It teaches about helping others and friendship.

I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman: For one reason or another, this was my three's most requested book to read this week. This book is about a boy that really wants an iguana, but the mother isn't quite convinced. It's a dialogue of their conversations.

Immi's Gift by Karin Littlewood: This book is about a girl, named Immi, who lives in a snow covered frozen world. One day, she breaks a hole in the ice and is fishing for food, but instead catches all sorts of colorful items - including a wooden bird which she ties onto her necklace, next to a small white bear. One day Immi drops the small bear from her necklace into the fishing hole. Faraway, a boy is walking along the beach. He throws something colorful into the water when something catches his eye. There washed up on the beach is a small wooden bear. Cute story.

Should I Share My Ice Cream? by Mo Willems: This is a book about an elephant that is debating and debating about sharing his ice cream with his friend. He thinks about it so long that his ice cream is completely melted and on the ground. The elephant starts to cry when his friend, mouse, comes over and shares his ice cream with elephant. I love the illustrations in Mo Willems books.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider by Iza Trapani: We are learning the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" song this week, so this book went along perfectly. This book has three other verses of the song, which were fun to read about as well.

If You're Happy and You Know It! by Jane Cabrera: We are also learning "If You're Happy and You Know It!" as one of our songs this week, so this book was a good accompaniment. My boys (ages 3, 1) love animals, so they especially enjoyed this book. Each page goes through a series of animals and their gestures throughout the song.

Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni: This book is about an inchworm who is proud to measured anything under the sun, from a robin's tail to a toucan's beak. One day a hungry nightingale asks him to measure her song or she'll eat him for breakfast! Luckily the inchworm finds a solution to solve the dilemma.

Bugs are Insects by Anne Rockwell: We really enjoyed this book and learning all about insects and their characteristics.

Wemberly's Ice-Cream Star  by Kevin Henkes: This book is the cutest story of a little mouse who receives and ice cream star. She's concerned about it dripping on her dress and how she can best share with her stuffed bunny friend, Petal. This book teaches patience and sharing.

Building an Igloo by Ulli Steltzer: We loved learning about how to make an igloo! The text wasn't too long for toddlers, great pictures and very informative.
