Thanksgiving Theme (Day 1)

We were planning on going on an outdoor scavenger hunt a few days ago and it snowed! We'll have to wait to do the scavenger hunt and fall leaf painting until next year. Instead, we were only able to do "Feed the Turkey" activity. Fall Scavenger Hunt :  Click here to print the Fall Scavenger Hunt . Fall Leaf Painting : I was hoping to gather a few leaves from our scavenger hunt to use for this art project. With the snowy weather, we'll wait until next year. The picture below is from the tutorial website.  Click here for a tutorial . Feed the Turkey : Easton loved this activity! It was one of his Thanksgiving favorites this year. I really like that this game incorporated a craft as well as a number learning activity. My plan was to find and use a bunch of acorns from our scavenger hunt, but since it snowed we had to improvise. Instead, we fed our Turkey peanuts.   Click here for a tutorial .

Turkey Letter Match : Easton is working on only uppercase letters right now. I put together this darling Turkey File Folder I found from a Thanksgiving Totpack. It's great for letter recognition, letter sounds and matching. I had Easton draw a turkey alphabet card, identify the letter and tell me the letter sound. Then, he matched the letter in the file folder. I wasn't able to get the turkeys to fit in the middle of the folder, so I used the back as well.  Click here to print the file folder from a Thanksgiving Totpack . Color the Turkey : We need to buy crayons that show up better! This was a simple activity and fun way to review colors.  Click here to find this printable in a Thanksgiving Totpack . Feed the Turkey : Easton loved "feeding the turkey"! I glued the turkey sheet onto a gift box and cut a large slit in the turkeys tummy. I hid the picture cards around the room and when Easton found one, we would identify what it was and "feed"...

Thanksgiving: Turkeys (Day 2)

Books: We read some of our favorite Thanksgiving Books  about Turkeys before doing our crafts. Turkey Headbands : Easton loved this art project! He would yell "gobble, gobble" while wearing his headband. I had Easton glue the eyes, beak and feet on the turkey himself. I helped him glue on the feathers, so they would fan out correctly. I made a few minor adjustments, but click  HERE  for directions on how to make these. Handprint Turkeys : These turkeys were really fun to make. We decided to do handprint turkeys, but footprint turkeys are just as cute. Click here for a tutorial  on handprint or footprint turkeys.

I love the idea of owning a set of books for each holiday! I bought a small collection of Thanksgiving Books this year. The pictures and descriptions below are from Amazon. Here are our favorites: "Turkey is in trouble. Bad trouble. The kind of trouble where it's almost Thanksgiving . . . and you're the main  course. But Turkey has an idea--what if he doesn't look like a turkey? What if he looks like another animal instead?  After many hilarious attempts, Turkey comes up with the perfect disguise to make this Thanksgiving the best ever!" Turkey Trouble : This book is my very favorite Thanksgiving Book we bought this year. Easton loves the humor and wants to read this book multiple times a day.  Click here to purchase "Turkey Trouble" online.   " Nancy Davis recreates the excitement and wonder of the first Thanksgiving--how the pilgrims came to America and how the Native Americans taught them to plant and then joined them in ...

Pilgrim/Native American Puppets : We read 'The First Thanksgiving' and made Pilgrim and Native American Puppets afterward. I liked being able to show Easton pictures of the Pilgrims and Native Americans before doing our craft. Easton loved making these and playing with them afterward.  Click here for a tutorial. Thanksgiving Tot Pack : These activities and others are from my favorite Thanksgiving Tot Pack.  Click here to print the activities below.  Easton was able to do the shadow match all on his own and needed a little guidance on the others. These activities kept his attention and he seemed excited about them.                                         Shadow Match Puzzles Beginning Letter Sounds                                             ...

Mayflower Handprint Art Project : We attempted to make a Mayflower handprint art project. Easton wasn't feeling it today, so we bagged it for another day. Maybe we'll try again tomorrow. Update: Easton was interested the next day, so we finished our Mayflower project! (See below) We used finger paint for the ocean, along with an octopus sticker Easton randomly found and cotton balls for the clouds.  Click here for a tutorial. T is for Turkey : I printed this page as well as a couple of other similar pages from a Thanksgiving Tot Pack  I found online. We used Power Magnets  to fill in the circles and a magnetic cookie sheet for this activity.  Thanksgiving Number Match : I printed these from the same  Thanksgiving Tot Pack   mentioned above. I helped guide Easton's finger as we counted the Thanksgiving pictures together. Then, he found the matching number to complete the puzzle.  Native American Shape Project : I printed and cut ou...

Turkey Craft : I found the cutest idea on Pinterest for a Turkey Craft. I love using Easton's handprints in crafts, so I'm sure that's why I love it so much.   Click here for a tutorial. Turkey Feather Matching Game : This is one of my favorite math Thanksgiving activities. It's great for a variety of levels - it comes with numbers 1-10 and 11-20. Kids can match number to number or quantity to number. This would be a great file folder activity. Click here to print.   Turkey Size Ordering : I printed and cut out the turkeys pictured below. Easton is able to order the turkeys from biggest to smallest with some help. I laid all the turkeys out in front of Easton and asked, "Which on is the biggest?" And we set it at the top of our art table. "Now which one is the biggest?" And we set it next to the one at the top of the table. We continued doing this until he ordered all of them.
