Family Home Evening: Baptism

**Other Baptismal Lessons: Kit Kat Baptismal Covenantshere (includes covenants with pictures) and here (includes baptism jeopardy).

Prayer:

Scripture - John 3:5. Explain that Jesus is speaking in this verse and teaching us something we need to do in order to live in heaven again with Heavenly Father and Jesus. Read the verse and explain that "born of water" is referring to baptism.

Song: "When Jesus Christ was Baptized" from the Children's Songbook page 102.

When Jesus Was Baptized: Use these visuals (shown below) to teach your children about when Jesus was baptized. Each visual has a summary included. I printed the summaries and glued them onto the back of the pictures, so I could show my children the pictures while reading the summary on the back. Point out any additional details you'd like in the pictures.

When I Am Baptized: Teach your children that they can be baptized just as Jesus was baptized. Use these visuals (shown below) from The Golden Seven to teach them what to expect when they are baptized. I read the summary included while showing the pictures. A chart is also included that teaches the promises we and Heavenly Father make when we are baptized - we simplified these as our lesson is for toddlers. Afterward, my husband taught my three how to hold his hand and plug his nose while he "immersed" my three in the water.

Baptism Object Lesson: You'll need a clear glass of water, food coloring and a cup of bleach. I learned that there needs to be a larger ratio of bleach to water. Remind your children that we are made clean after baptism. When we are clean, we feel good and happy inside. We also need to be clean to live in heaven again with Heavenly Father and Jesus. The glass of water represents us. When we make mistakes (sin) it makes us not feel good inside. Add a drop of food coloring into the water and stir it around. See how the glass isn't clean or clear anymore? However, when we are baptized or repent we can be made completely clean and feel good inside again. Pour the bleach into the glass and wait a minute for it to become clear. Add any other details you'd like.

Testimony: Tell your children about the day you were baptized and include your testimony afterward.
