Father's Day

Image
Prayer: Song: " Daddy's Homecoming " - page 210 from the Children's Songbook. Father Visual #1 (Heavenly Father) : This is a picture of Heavenly Father . We lived with Him in heaven before we came to earth. He is the Father of our spirits. He is real and loves us very much. He wants us to be loving and kind to others. Ask, "How can we talk to our Heavenly Father?" Discuss the importance of prayer and how Heavenly Father listens to our prayers. Father Visual #2 (Earthly Father) : Heavenly Father sent us to earth with loving parents. Ask, "Who is this a picture of?" Dad is the father of our earthly bodies. Dad loves you very much and loves when we are kind and help others. We can show dad we love him by giving him loves, playing with him, and being nice to our siblings. Add any other examples or a story of a time dad showed love to children. I printed and hung this picture up on the fridge as a reminder of our lesson this week and wha...

I am a Child of God (3): "Growing Up" Slideshow & Puzzles

Image
Prayer: Song: " I am a Child of God " Children's Songbook page 2. Opening Activity: Go through each child explaining how they have different characteristics of their parents. Some children may have the same color of hair or eyes as their mother. Some children may love to ski and bike like their father. Teach the children that they grow up to be just like their parents. Optional: Hold up a picture of the children's families for them as a visual aid, while explaining the same principle. Next, hold up a picture of Heavenly Father . Remind the children that He is our spirit father and we are His spirit children. He is kind, loving and understanding. We can also become like Him. "Growing Up" Power Point: Every kid LOVED this slide show. One slide is a picture of a baby animal, followed by a picture of the grown animal. For instance, a puppy is followed by a dog, a chick is followed by a chicken, a lion cub is followed by a lion, etc. Have the chil...

Book of Mormon (2): The Story of The Book of Mormon

Image
I often used the lesson below to teach new investigators about the Book of Mormon on my mission. It's a simple explanation of the Book of Mormon through pictures. The pictures are found in the front of the blue, hard/soft cover Book of Mormon. Prayer : Song : " Book of Mormon Stories " from The Children's Songbook page 118. Field Trip (Optional) : I told my two year old we were going to buy a very special item for him - that would be his very own. We loaded in the car and drove to Deseret Book together as a family. We bought my two his very own blue, hardcover Book of Mormon. Even though he can't read it yet, he'll see it on his bookshelf every day as a reminder of Jesus and The Book of Mormon. If you're interested in more kid friendly options of The Book of Mormon, we enjoy Hidden Treasures of The Book of Mormon (short summaries and flaps - also great to put in a church bag),  My First Book of Mormon Stories  (short summaries) and  Book of ...

Easter Week: Celebrating Christ & His Resurrection

Image
2020 Update:  5 Ways to Teach Your Children of Jesus' Resurrection I have recently updated our Easter Wreath to go along with the Come Follow Me curriculum. Starting the Sunday before Easter, children will learn about what happened each day of the week before Jesus' resurrection. There are scripture passages and pictures for children to add onto their wreath each day. My plan as a family is to read the scripture passage, watch the corresponding bible video on LDS.org and glue or staple the corresponding picture on the wreath. Click for a Free Download:  Easter Wreath Completed Wreath Palm Sunday: The Triumphal Entry (Sunday prior to Easter) Background : On the Sunday before Easter, Christians throughout the world wave branches in memory of Jesus entering the city of Jerusalem. On that triumphant day, He humbly rode a donkey through the streets. People were so happy to see Him that they waved palm branches and shouted "Hosanna!" The word hosanna  c...
