Image
Click to Download:  The Wise Man & Foolish Man PDF Morning Meeting (Matthew 7: 24-27 - The Wise Man & Foolish Man): Hold up the picture of The Sermon on the Mount and read the summary on the back (link at the bottom of the post). As you read the scriptures, tell the story with these images (from LDS.org). I printed them and placed a small magnet on the back to use with our magnet board. You could also place them on the ground to tell the story. Really emphasize not only knowing what Jesus taught, but actually DOING it. Explain the parable: House = Us (spiritually) Rock = Learning the teachings of Jesus and doing  (living) them. Storm = Temptations Sand = Learning the teachings of Jesus and NOT doing (living) them.  When the storm (temptations) come, if we are living the teachings of Jesus we are like the house built upon the rock. We stand tall and don't move. We are safe. If we are NOT living the teachings of Jesus, we don't have a strong foundation. When

Week 7: Honor Thy Mother

Image
Morning Meeting (John 2:1-11 - Story of Jesus turning water into wine). One of the commandments God has given us is to "Honor Thy Mother." Honor means to listen to and obey. There is a story in the Bible that shows an example of how Jesus honored His mother, Mary. Give a brief prelude to the story and then watch  the video  on LDS.org. Explain that as Mary told Jesus there was no more wine, Jesus responded with, "What can I do to help?" Relate this to children's lives. Family Home Evening: 1) Teach dad about what we learned this morning. As you-retell the story do the magic trick below. 2) Turn Water into Wine Object Lesson: Explain that although we don't have the power to turn water into wine, I do know a little magic trick. Free Download:  Peacemaker PDF Morning Meeting (Matthew 5:1-12 - The Sermon on the Mount): Print the picture below and read the summary provided on the back of the picture. Play the "Bee-Attitude File Folder Game" as you read through the scriptural account and match each trait to its blessing. Explain that "blessed" means happy. Family Home Evening: 1) Teach dad about what we learned this morning. 2) Peacemaker Hunt: Children will find hidden hearts around the house and use them to decode a secret message - "Blessed are the Peacemakers." Explain what a peace maker is (someone who gets along with others, figures out solutions to problems, a helper and enjoys making others happy.) Remind the children that "blessed" means happy. We can be happy as we are a peacemaker. 3) Peace Maker & Peace Breaker Sor

Week 6: I Will Follow Jesus

Image
Morning Meeting (Luke 5:4-11 & Matthew 4:18-22): Show the picture below and tell the story from Luke and Matthew. Emphasize how Jesus asked Simon, Andrew, James and John to follow Him and they forsook all  and  immediately  left their ships and their father to follow Jesus. Relate this story to your children's lives. Jesus asks US to follow Him. How do we follow him? And do we do it quickly? Watch  Fishers of Men  from LDS.org. Family Home Evening: 1) Review the story from this morning. 2a) Let's Go Fishing! Tonight was such a fun family lesson, and I loved hearing my boy's responses to how they'd follow Jesus when given different scenarios. You can print the fish and scenario cards in the " I Will Follow Jesus " PDF. My boys chose a color of fish. I read the corresponding scenario and they answered the question. Then, they used a magnetic fishing rod to "catch" the fish. On the back of the fish was a picture of the answer (o

Week 7: Baptism (2)

Image
Morning Meeting (John 3:1-8): The Story of Nicodemus. Read together and  Watch Video . Explain to your children that "being born again" refers to being baptized and we must be baptized to return to live with Heavenly Father. Review Jesus' baptism and our baptismal covenants, so the kids are ready to play Baptism Jeopardy tonight. You can find the three pictures below - Nicodemus, Jesus' Baptism & Covenants Sheet in my  Baptism (2) PDF . Family Home Evening: 1) Thomas Repents. Before starting the story, we talked about the difference between mistakes/accidents and sin. It's all about our intentions. Mistakes are when we do something without knowing any better and accidents are when things happen NOT on purpose. A sin is when we know a right choice and we choose to do the opposite. Give some examples. The story and Thomas relates well to children. You'll need: Thomas and Thomas Repents Story (found in the  Baptism (2) PDF ). A plastic sl

Family Home Evening: 1) Review Jesus being temped from this morning. Ask questions and have your children teach dad about what happened. 2) Choose The Right Story. Read this picture story (found in the Choose The Right PDF ) about Rex D. Pinegar and how he learned the importance of choosing the right. Relate it to your children's lives. 3) Choose The Right Board Game. There are two versions of this game and BOTH are a lot of fun. Everything you need (including directions) is found in the Choose the Right PDF . Version One: Role a die to move. If you land on a CTR, you move up the ladder. If you
