Week 5: The Holy Ghost

Morning Meeting: Matthew 3:16. From the story of Jesus' baptism, we learn about the "Godhead". We learn that Heavenly Father spoke from heaven, the Holy Ghost came down as a dove and Jesus was baptized. They are three separate beings. (Place "Heavenly Father," "Jesus," and "The Holy Ghost" on the board.) This is us on earth. (Place "Us on Earth" on the board) When we pray, we talk to Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ (draw arrows from us to Jesus and from Jesus to Heavenly Father). When Heavenly Father talks to us, it's through the Holy Ghost (draw arrows from Heavenly Father to The Holy Ghost and The Holy Ghost to us - the final board is shown below). We often feel it in our hearts by a feeling and in our minds by a thought (place heart and mind on board). Everyone can feel the power of the Holy Ghost. You can print these cards in the Holy Ghost PDF.
Family Home Evening:
1) Teach dad about what we learned in our morning meeting.
2) The Gift of the Holy Ghost. Although everyone can feel the power of the Holy Ghost, one of the promises Heavenly Father gives us after baptism is the Gift of the Holy Ghost. This means that we still feel the power of the Holy Ghost, but we can also always have the Holy Ghost with as a constant friend/companion. After you are baptized, dad (or a person with priesthood authority) will lay their hands on your head and give you this gift and a blessing.
3) The Holy Ghost Helps Me. Bring a gift containing the items below. Talk about how each object represents a way the Holy Ghost helps us. Tell personal experiences. Read the scripture references (you can print them on the Holy Ghost PDF) and match each scripture to the item in the box. For more ideas to put into the box, you can view this Holy Ghost family lesson last year.
- A Blanket - The Holy Ghost comforts us when we are sad, scared or worried about something. (Alma 17:10)
- A Picture of Heavenly Father and Jesus - The Holy Ghost testifies of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He helps us know that they are real and that they love us. (D&C 42:17)
- A Stoplight - The Holy Ghost shows us all things we should do. The Holy Ghost may ask us to STOP (red light) watching a certain movie or acting a certain way. The Holy Ghost gives us WARNINGS (yellow light) to protect us. We feel anxious or uneasy inside when we get red or yellow lights. The Holy Ghost also prompts us to GO (green light) in a certain direction or make good choices in our lives. We feel happy, motivated and good inside when we get a green light. (2 Nephi 32:5)
- Prayer Bear - The Holy Ghost teaches us truth. We can pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true or if Heavenly Father loves us or about anything we want an answer to. (Moroni 10:5)
- Calendar (Brings all things to our remembrance - John 14:26)
This year, I didn't make the time to put the gift together, so my boys took turns drawing these Holy Ghost Cards. I told them personal experiences of times I've felt the Holy Ghost from each example. We read the scripture references and matched them to the Holy Ghost cards.
4) Holy Ghost Memory Game. Print the Holy Ghost Memory Cards on card stock and play memory or a matching game. My boys love memory!
5) Traffic Light Treat. Grab a graham cracker, peanut butter or Nutella or frosting, and top it with a red, yellow and green M&M. Remind your children how the Holy Ghost is like a traffic light and helps guide our lives.
