"Kit Kat" Baptismal Covenants
Last December, I was asked to speak at my sweet niece's baptism. As I was looking for ideas, I came across a Kit Kat Object Lesson from Strong Armor and knew it was exactly what I should talk about. It's basically a "KIT" that describes the three covenants we make at baptism (one starts with a -K- the other with an -A- and the other with a -T-. I will always look at Kit Kats differently now!

"When we are baptized we make special promises with Heavenly Father. These promises are called covenants and are very special, because it is a double promise. This means that we promise Heavenly Father certain things and Heavenly promises us things in return.
This Kit Kat bar helps us remember the promises we make at baptism. The first word we see is “KIT”. Have you seen a tool kit before? Or a medical kit? A kit is a set of items you would need to do something. For instance, a tool kit has a lot of different tools inside, so we can fix something. When you see the word KIT on this Kit Kat bar, you can think of it as a baptismal KIT or the necessary things you promise to do when you are baptized.
The K-A-T help us remember these three things.
The first thing we promise starts with a K - Keep the Commandments. (Hold up page 2) A commandment is something Heavenly Father asks us to do that will help us stay safe and be happy. Our parents, the scriptures, and teachers at church help us know the commandments. Heavenly Father has asked us to go to church and take the sacrament. Heavenly Father has asked us to always be honest and treat others kindly. Heavenly Father has asked us to be baptized, which is something you are already doing today to keep the commandments!
The second thing we promise starts with an A - Always Remember Him. (Hold up page 3) When it says Him, it is talking about Jesus Christ. We can always remember Jesus by saying our prayers, reading the scriptures that teach us about Him, or by thinking about what He would want us to do when we make choices.
The third thing we promise starts with a T - Taking His Name Upon Us. (Hold up page 4) This means that we try our best to be like Jesus. Have you seen missionaries before with black name tags that say Jesus Christ’s name on them? When we take Jesus’ name upon us, it’s as if we are putting an imaginary tag on us (demonstrate this). We try to be like Jesus in the things we say and do. We try our best to be kind and loving to others.
There’s something really interesting about these three promises we make. Do they sound familiar at all? The next time you take the sacrament at church, pay special attention to the sacrament prayer (Moroni 4:3). These three promises are mentioned and at the end of the prayer, Heavenly Father promises us something: We will always have His spirit to be with us. Along with the Holy Ghost, Heavenly Father promises us Eternal Life and to always be forgiven when we repent. When we take the sacrament it’s as if we are being baptized all over again. We “re-new” or make our same covenants with Heavenly Father and are made clean every week."
