Week 5: Baptism

Morning Meeting: Matthew 3:13-17. Teach the story of John the Baptist and when Jesus was baptized. You can print the story and summary in this Baptism PDF (create a free login to download). Watch the account of when The Baptism of Jesus on LDS.org.

Family Home Evening:

1) Have your children teach dad about when Jesus was baptized. Ask them questions (you can find some in the Baptism PDF) as they teach dad.

2) Talk about YOUR baptism. Stories and personal experiences are always fun for children to hear about. Thank you to my mom and mother-in-law for finding these! Go into detail about the day you were baptized and how you felt. Show pictures if you have them. Bear your testimony.

3) Baptismal Covenants. Teach your children WHY we are baptized. When we are baptized, we follow Jesus' example. We make a covenant (a two-way promise) with Heavenly Father. We promise Heavenly Father to do certain things and He promises us things in return. Use the Baptism Covenant Cards and sort them into things we promise Heavenly Father and things Heavenly promises us. Talk about the promises one by one and place them under the correct heading. The final board will look like this:

4) Number 8 Donuts. We made these banana bread donuts earlier in the day and I put two of them on a skewer to make the number eight!
