Letter I Songs & Rhymes
1) The Itsy Bitsy Spider.
- Use actions and/or this magnet board to sing the song. I couldn't find the exact template pictured below, but this link has similar images.
The itsy bitsy spider
Went up the water spout.
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out.
Out came the sun
That dried up all the rain.
And the itsy bitsy spider
Went up the spout again.
- Fill a paper bag with Mr. Potato Head body parts. Have your child draw one body part and incorporate into the song. For example, if he/she draws a hand you can clap hands. Other ideas: stomp feet, pat your legs, blink your eyes, flap your arms, stick out your tongue, touch your nose, wiggle your ears, etc.
If you're happy and you know it clap your hands.
(clap, clap)
If you're happy and you know it clap your hands.
(clap, clap)
If you're happy and you know it,
And your face will surely show it
If you're happy and you know it clap your hands.
(clap, clap)
- Option One: Show your child this picture of a bee with labeled body parts. Explain where the head, thorax and abdomen are. Also, label the six legs and antennae. Use the actions below while singing this song.
Tune: London Bridges Falling Down
Head and thorax, abdomen. Abdomen, abdomen.
Head and thorax, abdomen. That's an insect.
(point to head, neck and tummy. Clap out "that's an insect".)
Every insect has six legs, has six legs, has six legs.
Every insect has six legs. That's an insect.
(Hold up six fingers, pretending to be legs. Clap out "that's an insect".)
Antennae to feel their way, feel their way, feel their way.
Antennae to feel their way. That's an insect.
(Hold index fingers on your head, pretending to be antennae. Clap out "that's an insect".)
- Option Two: Print insect clipart (from clipart panda) images and tape them onto popsicle sticks. Hold them up and move around while singing this song.
