Letter M Songs & Rhymes

1) The Muffin Man.

  • Option One: Make up actions to use while singing the song.
Do you know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man.
Do you know the muffin man,
Who lives on Drury Lane.

Yes, I know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man.
Yes, I know the muffin man,
Who lives on Drury Lane.
  • Option Two: Place toy animals in a paper bag. Have your child draw a toy animal and ask the animal, "Do you know the muffin man?" Act out the animal while singing the song. (ie: elephant - march around the room, bird - flap your arms, etc.)

2) Little Miss Muffet.
  • Option Two: Tuffets are hard cushions, but we used pillows instead. Set out pillows in a circle and jump from tuffet to tuffet as you sing this song (idea from Toddler Approved).
  • Option Three: Act out the rhyme. Have a child pretend to be Miss Muffet, sitting on a tuffet (cushion). Have child pretend to eat curds and whey. Drop a spider by the child and have the child run away.

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet
Eating her curds and whey
Along came a spider
Who sat down beside her
Who scared Miss Muffet away.

3) Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.
  • Option One: Print the Five Little Monkeys to use while singing this song. I laminated ours and placed magnets on the back. We use them with our magnetic cookie sheet.

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
No more monkeys jumping on the bed.

(repeat with four, three, two and one little monkeys)

  • Option Two: Read "The Five Little Monkeys" from our Letter M Booklist while singing this song.

4) Mulberry Bush (Pop Goes the Weasel).
  • Fill up a few large balloons. One child pretends to be the "weasel" and he/she carries the balloon around while the other children ("the monkeys") chase after her. Sing the song together and when you say POP the child with the balloon gets to pop the balloon by sitting on it or with a toothpick.
All around the mulberry bush,
The monkey chased the weasel.
The monkey thought twas all in fun,
POP! goes the weasel.
