I Will Follow Jesus' Example

Prayer:

Intro: Last week, we learned about Ammon and being a good example. Today, we reviewed what a good example means. "An example is someone who shows others what to do. A leader. Have you noticed how your little brother copies everything you do? You're an example to him. He watches how you act and wants to do the same things you do."

Song"Do as I'm Doing" from the Children's Songbook. Talk about being an example or leader while singing this song. Have one person to be the "example" and choose how to sing the song (clap hands, stomp feet, roll arms, etc.) and have everyone follow what the example does. We used egg shakers (plastic eggs filled with rice and sealed close with electrical tape) while singing today.

Our Best Example - Jesus Christ: I held up a picture of Jesus and explained that Jesus is our very best example to follow. He lived on earth and always did what Heavenly Father wanted Him to do. He was kind to others and showed us what we need to do to live with Heavenly Father again.

Walk in Jesus' Footsteps Activity: Prepare five footstep cards (as pictured below) and write the following on the cards: Born, Prayer & Scriptures, Baptism, Kind & Loving, Resurrection. My three and one year old would take turns choosing which footsteps to stand on. For example, when one stood on the footsteps with "Born" I showed them a picture of Jesus as a baby. "Were you born just like Jesus was born? Yes! You are following in Jesus' Footsteps." Repeat for remaining footstep cards. You can click on the links provided to view the pictures, which are all found in this Gospel Art Book. I marked the pictures beforehand with tape, so I could turn to them quickly.

Scripture (John 8:12): After reading this verse, I explained that Jesus is the light of the world, meaning He is our example in leading us back to Heavenly Father.

Good Example Flashlight Hunt: Just as Jesus is our light in showing us a good example, we can use this flashlight to show us good examples. Before the lesson I taped "good example pictures" all around the upstairs walls. We turned out all the lights and my boys used their flashlights to find the pictures. "This is a picture of two kids playing with blocks together. It's so nice to share toys with others. They are being good examples."
