Letter F: Songs & Rhymes

1) Five Little Speckled Frogs.

  • Print, cut out and tape/glue these  Five Little Speckled Frogs (from Picklebums) onto popsicle sticks. Cut five slits into an empty paper towel roll for the popsicle sticks to go in. Remove them as prompted in the song.
Five Little Speckled Frogs,
Sat on a speckled log,
Eating the most delicious grub
Yum! Yum!

One jumped into the pool,
Where it was nice and cool
Now there are four green speckled frogs.

(Repeat: Four, Three, Two, One)

2) Old MacDonald Had a Farm.
  • Option One: Print a barn and have your child choose one farm animal sticker at a time to place on the barn. Sing the song according to which animal your child chooses.
Old MacDonald had a farm,
EE-I-EE-I-O!
And on that farm he had a (cow)
EE-I-EE-I-O!
With a moo, moo here
And a moo, moo there.
Here a moo, there a moo
Everywhere a moo, moo.
Old MacDonald had a farm,
EE-I-EE-I-O!

  • Option Two: Old MacDonald Had a Farm Music Basket from Play, Learn, Everyday: Have your child choose one animal at a time and sing the song according to which animal your child chooses.

3) Farm Animal Movement Cards from Modern Preschool: I know these aren't songs or rhymes, but we added them into our week and my boys (ages: 3, 1) LOVED them. They drew one card at a time and acted it out. I certainly enjoyed watching them!

4) F is for Firefighter from The Measured Mom.
  • Wear fireman helmets and/or do the actions below, while singing this song.
Tune: "Im a Little Teapot"

I'm a little firefighter on the go,
(point to self)
Here is my helmet
(pretend to hold helmet on head)
Here is my hose
(stretch arm out, pretending to hold a hose)
When I see a fire, hear me shout
(Put hand on forehead, pretending to look for a fire)
"Turn on the water, and put the fire out!"
(cup hands around your mouth)
SHHHHHHHH!
(This is the sound of water squirting from the hose)
