Letter B: Songs & Rhymes

1) Baa Baa Black Sheep:
  • Make Black Sheep Sock Puppets: Cut out a body and two ears from black felt. Use hot glue to glue the felt pieces and googly eyes onto a sock. Have your child(ren) wear the sock puppets and make them bounce to the rhythm while singing the song. This was a FAVORITE of ours!
Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir three bags full.
One for the master and one for the dame.
And one for the little boy who lives down the lane.

2) Rockabye Baby:
  • Fill a bin with a few dolls and stuffed animals. Have your child choose one to rock while singing this song. When you sing "fall" have your child drop to the ground and back up to finish the song. My almost three loved this song, but my one lost interest. Draw a new doll or animal from the bin and sing the song again.
Rockabye baby in the tree top,
When the wind blows the cradle will rock.
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall,
And down will come baby, cradle and all.

3) Where are the bees?
  • Option One: Print the beehive and bees from Sunflower Storytime. Hot glue or velcro the bees onto a glove. Hide your gloved hand behind the beehive until the bees come out of the hive. Count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 with your fingers when prompted.
Here is the beehive, but where are the bees?
Hiding inside where no one can see.
Here come the bees, out of the hive.
One, Two, Three, Four, Five! They're Alive!

  • Option Two: Print the beehive and bees from Sunflower Storytime. If you don't have a glove, you can hold the beehive in one hand and put the bees in your lap. Make sure your children can't see the bees (put the beehive in the way). When you say "one, two, three, four, five" throw the bees in the air as if they're flying. If your children are old enough, give them a turn to hold the beehive and throw the bees.

4) Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear.
  • Hold a teddy bear or teach a teddy bear the actions to this rhyme.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around,
(turn around in a circle)
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.
(touch the ground)
Teddy bear, teddy bear, go upstairs,
(pretend to walk up stairs)
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say your prayers.
(fold your arms)
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn out the light,
(pretend to turn out a light)
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say goodnight.
(put your hands together by your cheek and rest your head on your hands)

5) BINGO.
There was a farmer who had a dog,
 And BINGO was his name-o!
B-I-N-G-O! B-I-N-G-O! B-I-N-G-O!
And Bingo was his name-o!
  • Option Two: Print the BINGO cards pictured below from super simple learning. Tape the letters up high, so your children can see them. Have your child draw one action card (clap, pat your legs, pat your tummy, pat your head, and jump) and do the action while singing the song. Sing the song again with the other action cards.
