1) The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Use actions and/or this magnet board to sing the song. I couldn't find the exact template pictured below, but this link has similar images. The itsy bitsy spider Went up the water spout. Down came the rain And washed the spider out. Out came the sun That dried up all the rain. And the itsy bitsy spider Went up the spout again. 2) If You're Happy and You Know It. Fill a paper bag with Mr. Potato Head body parts. Have your child draw one body part and incorporate into the song. For example, if he/she draws a hand you can clap hands. Other ideas: stomp feet, pat your legs, blink your eyes, flap your arms, stick out your tongue, touch your nose, wiggle your ears, etc. If you're happy and you know it clap your hands. (clap, clap) If you're happy and you know it clap your hands. (clap, clap) If you're happy and you know it, And your face will surely show it If you're happy and you know i...

Here are our favorite books for Letter I: Imogene's Antlers by David Small: This is a book that both my boys (ages 3, 1) and I loved. It's about a girl, named Imogene, that wakes up and realizes she has grown antlers. It's hard to do all sorts of things including getting dressed, walking through doorways and going downstairs. After a long day, Imogene falls sleep and wakes up in the morning and the antlers are gone! When she walk in the kitchen, her parents are thrilled until they realize what has grown instead. Manana Iguana by Ann Whitford Paul: Another favorite at our house this week. This book came with a CD to read along with, which my boys both enjoyed. This book is a version of The Little Red Hen. It teaches about helping others and friendship.  I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman: For one reason or another, this was my three's most requested book to read this week. This book is about a boy that really wants an iguana, but the mother isn...

Here's what our week looked like for Letter H:  Read, Read, Read . I love reading to my kids on a daily basis. I checked out our  Letter H Booklist  at the library a week in advance. The picture above were our very favorite books, but you view more great Letter H books by clicking on the booklist link. Two of our favorites were in our church bag! Don't forget to include: Hungry Hen and The Hungry Thing. Read Letter H Book . We also love to read these  Little Letter Books  from The Measured Mom. There are only eight or so pictures in each booklet. I pointed out the uppercase and lowercase H's (since we are focusing on both this year) and we talked about the pictures.  Letter H Songs & Rhymes . This year, I'm putting together an interactive set of songs & rhymes for each letter of the alphabet. I know this series is focused on my almost three, but my one year old had so much fun doing the Letter H...

Here are our favorite action songs and rhymes for Letter H: 1) Humpty Dumpty. Option One: Build a wall with legos (try different heights!) on a cookie sheet. Sing this song as your child places Humpty Dumpty (a raw egg with a drawn on smile) on the wall. When you sing "had a great fall" have your child push the egg off the wall and watch it break open onto the cookie sheet. My three LOVED this idea from Preschool Alphabet .  Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall All the king's horses  And all the king's men Couldn't put Humpty together again. Option Two: Shake Humpty Dumpty egg shakers (plastic eggs filled with rice and taped closed with electrical tape - draw a face on the eggs) while singing this song. Have children drop the egg when cued in the song. 2) Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes. Action Song - touch the part of the body as you sing. Optional: Use different ways to sing this song. ie: slow, fast, ...

Here are our favorite book for Letter H: The Little Red Hen by Mary Finch: This is the classic story of The Little Red Hen. A hen decides to make some bread and asks her friends who will help her gather the wheat, take it to the miller or bake the wheat into bread. The mouse and rooster are much too busy to help. However, when it comes time to eat the bread the hen isn't inclined to give any to her friends. The mouse and rooster soon mend their ways. This book teaches about helping others.  Hairy Maclary's Bone by Lynley Dodd: This book was my three's very favorite and most requested to read this week. It's about a dog, named Hairy Maclary, who is given a bone and five dogs soon follow after him in hopes to get some of the bone. However, Hairy Maclary is a smart little dog and one by one loses the other dogs, so he can enjoy the bone all to himself.  Hungry Hen by Richard Waring: This book is one of my favorites from our booklist. It's about a h...
