Letter U: Flashlight Letter Hunt, Songs, Handprint Art (Unicorn), U Craft, Booklist
Flashlight Letter Hunt: Easton LOVED this activity. While he was playing in the living room, I put Alphabet Stickers (bought at the dollar store) all around his room. I gave him a flashlight and he went into his dark room and was so excited to find each letter. I had him identify the letter after finding one. The picture below isn't great, but you get the idea.
Letter U Songs: Next we learned a few new Letter U Songs from the measured mom blog (picture below). Our favorites were: Up the Hill (Easton's favorite!), The People on the Bus, Up to the Ceiling, and The Lion and the Unicorn.
Letter U Handprint Art (Unicorn): Next, we made a Handprint Unicorn. We stamped Easton's hand in green paint (with sparkles added) and stamped them on a piece of white paper. When the paint dried, we glued on a unicorn horn and tail.
U Push-Pin Craft: To reinforce the Letter U, I wrote a block letter U on a piece of paper and had Easton poke holes with a Push Pin (fine motor practice). After he was "done" I cut out the letter U and stuck it between two pieces of contact paper. When on the window, the sun shines through the little holes. We left the U up all week for Easton to remember our new letter.
Letter U Booklist: I found our Letter U Booklist on the measured mom blog (pictured below). Our favorites are: Up Above and Down Below and Underground. A few other Letter U Books we like from the library are: Armadillo's Orange by Jim Arnosky; The Umbrella by Ingrid & Dieter Schubert (Easton's favorite); The Umbrella by Jan Brett; Great Day for Up by Dr. Seuss; Claire and the Unicorn Happy Ever After by Susan Mitchell (this one was okay, but I liked having a book to show Easton what a unicorn looks like).
