Letter P: Peacocks, Play Dough (Day 2)

Coffee Filter Peacock: Of all of the crafts we've done the past six months, this one has been one of my very favorites. I was so excited about this craft, I wanted to do one myself. I bought coffee filters from the grocery store and we stamped blue, purple and green Do-a-Dot Markers all over the coffee filter. Then, we used a water spray bottle to make the dots bleed together. Once the coffee filter dried, we glued on our peacock. Click the title "Coffee Filter Peacock" for a detailed tutorial.

Play Dough: Easton loves anything having to do with Play Dough! As we're working on letter P this week, play dough fits in well. Click here to see a list items to pair with play dough. Of the list, we've tried Mr. Potato Head pieces, buttons, play kitchen utensils, and toy cars. I love watching Easton's creativity when we play with play dough. An hour goes by really quickly when we play with play dough.

Alphabet/Number Stampers for Play Dough: I bought these at Lakeshore Learning. Bringing all the alphabet stampers out at once would have been too overwhelming, so we only used the letters in Easton's name to begin. We spelled his name a bunch and he had fun stamping. I brought out a few other letter stampers (including Letter P, as we're working on it this week) and let him play with those next. This activity was a good review of the alphabet as a whole.

Numbers and Play Dough: We used our Alphabet/Number Stampers for this activity as well. I put numbers 1-9 in a brown paper sack. Easton drew a number stamper and identified the number. Next, he stamped the number on a piece play dough. On a separate piece of play dough, he used the back side of the stamper to make the same number of dots. For instance, if he drew the number FIVE stamper he would stamp five dots. This didn't last long, but it was a good number review.
