Thanksgiving Books
I love the idea of owning a set of books for each holiday! I bought a small collection of Thanksgiving Books this year. The pictures and descriptions below are from Amazon. Here are our favorites:
"Turkey is in trouble. Bad trouble. The kind of trouble where it's almost Thanksgiving . . . and you're the main course. But Turkey has an idea--what if he doesn't look like a turkey? What if he looks like another animal instead? After many hilarious attempts, Turkey comes up with the perfect disguise to make this Thanksgiving the best ever!"
Turkey Trouble: This book is my very favorite Thanksgiving Book we bought this year. Easton loves the humor and wants to read this book multiple times a day. Click here to purchase "Turkey Trouble" online.
"Nancy Davis recreates the excitement and wonder of the first Thanksgiving--how the pilgrims came to America and how the Native Americans taught them to plant and then joined them in a Thanksgiving feast. Parents can use the simple text and the bright, graphic illustrations of this lift-the-flap book to introduce a very young child to this holiday."
The First Thanksgiving: This board book is a very simple explanation of why we celebrate Thanksgiving. Easton loves to lift the flaps and reading this book together. Click here to purchase "The First Thanksgiving" online.
"Starring in the school Thanksgiving play would make even the coolest cat nervous. But when Pete the Cat gets onstage, he makes learning the story of the first Thanksgiving fun. With thirteen flaps that open to reveal hidden surprises, this book is sure to be a holiday favorite for every Pete the Cat fan."
Pete the Cat - The First Thanksgiving: This book is also one of Easton's favorites. Easton often reads books and incorporate them into his life. For instance, Easton named all the cats in this book cats he knows in his life. Instead of saying "Pete" I would say "Ivy". We read this book almost every day this month! "This silly rhyming story about ten turkeys teaches children how to count backwards.
"Looky!" says a silly turkey swinging from a vine.
Gobble gobble wibble wobble.
Whoops! Now there are nine.
Girls and boys will gobble up this hilarious story about ten goofy turkeys and their silly antics: swinging from a vine, strutting on a boar, doing a noodle dance, and more. Veteran author Tony Johnston has written a joyful text, which first-time illustrator Richard Deas brings to life as wild and wacky fun!"
10 Fat Turkeys: I like that this book teaches numbers and counting backwards. It's pretty entertaining and Easton enjoys reading it together. Click here to purchase "10 turkeys" online.
"A touch-and-feel book that celebrates Thanksgiving and encourages gratitude for blessings in a child's life.
In this new touch-and-feel board book, textures and bright artwork bring to life the things children experience at Thanksgiving. The narrator lists things for which he or she is thankful. Tactile experiences throughout the book engage the reader and help children to connect the book to the textures in their actual surroundings. Soft, vibrant watercolor illustrations add warmth and sweetness to the book. Ages 2-5."
Happy Thanksgiving Day: I really like that this book is about blessings and being grateful. It's simply written and I bought this book with both Easton (2 years) and Connor (5 months) in mind. I like the touch and feel books as a sensory learning experience as well. Click here to purchase "Happy Thanksgiving Day" online.
