Gratitude (1): I Will Be Thankful

This lesson is from the current nursery manual, Behold Your Little Ones. Click the link to view the original lesson "I Will Be Thankful" from LDS.org.

Prayer:

Song: "Thanks to Our Father" (Children's Songbook page 20). Sing or say the words to the song with the actions below:

Thanks for our Father we will bring (fold arms)
For He gives us everything (spread arms out)
Eyes and ears and hands and feet (point to eyes, ears hands, and feet)
Clothes to wear (point to clothes) and food to eat (pretend to eat)

Scripture - D&C 59:7: "Thou shalt thank the Lord thy God in all things." We discussed the words "thank you" and how it makes people feel when we thank them. One way we can show love to Heavenly Father and others is by saying thank you. We should always show appreciation to Heavenly Father as well as parents, teachers, friends and others who help us on our way.

Story - The Ten Lepers (Luke 17: 11-19). I showed my two the picture below and summarized the story. 'There were 10 men who were very sick. Jesus healed them and made them better (point to Jesus in the picture). They were all very happy (point to the lepers in the picture). But only one man said "thank you" to Jesus (point to the thankful leper in the picture). We can say "thank you"'. We discussed how important it is to thank Jesus and Heavenly Father for everything we have.

Activity: Before the lesson, I drew ten things on a piece of paper that my two is grateful for. I cut them out and placed them in a brown, paper sack. My two drew one of the pictures from the sack and we talked about it. We emphasized how important and kind it is to say "thank you" to Heavenly Father (through prayer) and others for the things we have. These are some ideas of pictures to draw or you can print pictures here: clothes, family, Reeks (my two's favorite stuffed animal dog), house, food/drinks, grandparents and cousins, toys, body, books and the beautiful world.
