Letter P: Porcupine, Pom Poms, Pouring, Patterns, Playdough (Day 5)

Image
We had extra time today, so we did a few more things than normal. Today was a lot of fun! Easton was so interested, we spent over an hour and a half doing these activities. The following ideas are all from the Letter P activities on the Measured Mom blog. Prickly Porcupine : We watched a little youtube video on porcupines today, so Easton knew what they looked like and about their quills. Afterward, we glued our porcupine body onto a piece of white card stock and used a plastic fork to stamp brown paint onto our porcupine. Click the title "Prickly Porcupine" for a tutorial. (Easton's Porcupine) Pom Pom Painting & Color Sorting : There are so many ideas online of activities to do with Pom Poms . I bought a set from the Dollar Store and we used them to paint today (see first picture below). We used a clothes pin to hold the pom pom in place. Next, we did a color sorting activity with pom poms. I found a set of colored bowls at Ikea and they happen to match ...

Letter P: Pigs, Potatoes (Day 4)

Image
The Three Little Pigs : After reading a few pig books from our Letter P Booklist, we retold the story of the Three Little Pigs with visuals. Click the title "Three Little Pigs" to find similar images. I couldn't find the site where I printed mine from. Easton wanted me to tell the story over and over again and requested to play with these again later in the week. He loved pretending to be the big bad wolf and blowing me over. Pig Shape Craft : I found this idea on the Letter P Crafts list on the Measured Mom blog. Easton glued all the pieces down after identifying all the shapes. Click the title "Pig Shape Craft" for a tutorial. Piggy Bank : As a fine motor skills activity, I bought a piggy bank from the dollar store. I pulled out our stash of coins, and let Easton put them into the piggy bank.  Potato Stamping : After reading "Pigs Love Potatoes" I figured stamping potatoes would go along well with our pig theme today. I wish I had...

Letter P: Penguins

Image
P is for Penguin : We read "Penguin and Pumpkin" and "Tacky the Penguin" from our Letter P Booklist and made a simple craft afterward. I found this idea on the Letter P Craft List on The Measured Mom blog. I always love doing crafts using the letter we're learning during the week. The first picture is from the tutorial website (click the title "P is for Penguin" to view) and the second picture is Easton's cute penguin. Penguin Stacker : I found our Penguin Stacker at TJ Maxx. Easton needed a little help knowing the order of the pieces, so I helped him with that part. He did all the stacking by himself and came back to this toy throughout the day.  5 Little Penguins : I found this song on Youtube today and loved it! We're adding it to our Letter P songs this week. Click the title "5 Little Penguins" to watch.

Letter P: Peacocks, Play Dough (Day 2)

Image
Coffee Filter Peacock : Of all of the crafts we've done the past six months, this one has been one of my very favorites. I was so excited about this craft, I wanted to do one myself. I bought coffee filters from the grocery store and we stamped blue, purple and green Do-a-Dot Markers all over the coffee filter. Then, we used a water spray bottle to make the dots bleed together. Once the coffee filter dried, we glued on our peacock. Click the title "Coffee Filter Peacock" for a detailed tutorial. Play Dough: Easton loves anything having to do with Play Dough! As we're working on letter P this week, play dough fits in well. Click here to see a list items to pair with play dough .  Of the list, we've tried Mr. Potato Head pieces, buttons, play kitchen utensils, and toy cars. I love watching Easton's creativity when we play with play dough. An hour goes by really quickly when we play with play dough. Alphabet/Number Stampers for Play Dough: I boug...
