Week 5: The Holy Ghost

Image
Download this lesson here:  The Holy Ghost PDF Morning Meeting: Matthew 3:16. From the story of Jesus' baptism, we learn about the "Godhead". We learn that Heavenly Father spoke from heaven, the Holy Ghost came down as a dove and Jesus was baptized. They are three separate beings. (Place "Heavenly Father," "Jesus," and "The Holy Ghost" on the board.) This is us on earth. (Place "Us on Earth" on the board) When we pray, we talk to Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ (draw arrows from us to Jesus and from Jesus to Heavenly Father). When Heavenly Father talks to us, it's through the Holy Ghost (draw arrows from Heavenly Father to The Holy Ghost and The Holy Ghost to us - the final board is shown below). We often feel it in our hearts by a feeling and in our minds by a thought (place heart and mind on board). Everyone can feel the power of the Holy Ghost. You can print these cards in the Holy Ghost PDF . Family H...

Ask them questions (you can find some in the Baptism PDF ) as they teach dad. 2) Talk about YOUR baptism. Stories and personal experiences are always fun for children to hear about. Thank you to my mom and mother-in-law for finding these! Go into detail about the day you were baptized and how you felt. Show pictures if you have them. Bear your testimony. 3) Baptismal Covenants. Teach your children WHY we are baptized. When we are baptized, we follow Jesus' example. We make a covenant (a two-way promise) with Heavenly Father. We promise Heavenly Father to do certain things and He promises us things in return. Use the Baptism Covenan...

Week 4: The Creation

Morning Meeting - Read/summarize John 1:1-4 and talk about the pre-mortal life and how Jesus created the earth for us. Go through " The Pre-mortal Life " story with pictures or cut outs (the cut out version is pictured below). You can go into as much or as little detail you'd like depending on the age of your child(ren). Family Home Evening: 1) Review the pre-mortal life from our morning meeting with Dad. Ask the kids questions about what they learned and have them answer to "teach" dad. 2) The Creation Story . My mom gave me a copy of this short and sweet creation story. 3) Make Earth Cupcakes OR Puffy Paint Earths. Earth Cupcakes: Make a store bought cake mix (we always substitute buttermilk in place of the water to make them more moist). Dye half the mix blue, the other half green. Pour the blue mix into one zip lock bag and the green mix into another zip lock bag and cut a small hole in the bottom corner. Fill the muffin tins 3/4 the wa...

Week 3: The Birth of Jesus

Image
Morning Meeting - Read and summarize Luke 2:1-17 (The Nativity Story). Use a  Nativity Flannel Board to tell the story as we read. I couldn't find the exact flannel board I have, so the link is a similar one on Amazon. Family Home Evening: 1) Have the kids re-tell dad about the story of Christ's birth with the flannel board. 2) Watch " The King is Born " from the Living Scriptures Animated Series. I watched this movie and so many others of the animated series growing up. They really helped me remember all the stories from the scriptures! The option is available to stream these DVD's online. Click the link for more info. Another option would be to watch " The Nativity " from LDS.org. 3) Make a Nativity Gingerbread House: I hot glued the stable together using graham crackers and then hot glued the stable onto a cut out cereal box. We used tooth picks and gumdrops (people), fruit leathers (star and head bands), cinnamon squares cereal ...
