*FREE* PDF Download: 10 Days of Dinosaurs
Day One: Dinosaur Noodle Art
Young paleontologists will piece together bones (noodles) to build a dinosaur skeleton. You will find dinosaur skeletons for a brachiosaurus, t-rex, pterodactyl, stegosaurus and triceratops.
Day Two: Fossils Found in Rock:
Young paleontologists will dig for dinosaur bones, identify them, measure them, put them together, and record their observations! Click to view on instagram: Video Tutorial.
Day Three: Fossils Found in Ice:
Young paleontologists will learn about how fossil can be found in ice, by playing with fossils found in chunks of ice. Children can simply melt the icy fossils with salt or in the microwave, or you can do this experiment to see which items melt the icy fossils the quickest. There are two observation sheets available in this PDF:
Which liquid will melt the icy fossil the quickest?
Which solid will melt the icy fossil the quickest?
Also included are tags with each of the liquids/solids, so you can remember which item is which. And a detailed instruction sheet of how to make the eggs. You can view a tutorial on my instagram page: Video Tutorial.
Day Four: Fossils Found in Tar:
Fossils have been found in rock, ice, AND TAR. Make your own tar to excavate dinosaurs.
Day Five: Dinosaur Footprints
You can stamp their feet, heads, side, back, tails or even bury them in the dough. These footprints teach us a lot about dinosaurs! Click here for a Video Tutorial.
Day Six: Dinosaur Stamping & Tracks
This worksheet teaches children the different things that dinosaur tracks teach us about dinosaurs. Make it fun by dipping play dinosaurs in paint and stamping them onto your worksheet! I found that smaller dinosaur counters work the best for this activity. Click here for a Video Tutorial.
Day Seven: Make Your Own Fossil
These detailed instructions will teach children how to make their very own dinosaur fossil! You can even paint it afterward if you'd like.
Day Eight: Volcano Cut & Blow Art:
Children will practice their cutting and gluing skills and learn a new way to paint - blowing a straw.
Day Nine: Dinosaur Hunt & "Egg"scavation:
Young paleontologists will hunt for baby dinosaur eggs and use tools to hatch them! After the baby dinosaurs are all hatched, they will practice their math skills by sorting, graphing and counting.
Day Ten: Creative Drawing/Writing:
To finish off our dinosaur theme, we will read "If the Dinosaurs Came Back" and draw or write (depending on the age of the child) what THEY think would happen if dinosaurs came back.
