The BEST Flubber!

Have you ever played with Flubber before? If not, it's a MUST-DO activity at home with little ones! I have a four and two year old and they've played HOURS this week with Flubber. We added cookie cutter hearts and turned our flubber pink for Valentine's Day and have spent a lot of time cutting and rolling and stamping various objects. We especially loved stamping dinosaurs and observing their footprints. I especially love activities that require minimal prep time that creates hours of play.

Ingredients.

  • 2 cups Elmer's White Glue
  • 2 teaspoons Borax
  • Liquid Water Color (or small amounts of food coloring)
  • 1 1/3 C + 1 1/2 C Warm Water
  • Glitter or scent (optional)

Instructions.
  • In a small container, combine:
    • 1 1/3 cup warm water
    • 2 tsp. Borax.
  • Stir until borax is completely dissolved. Set aside.
  • In a large container, combine:
    • 1 1/2 cup warm water
    • 2 cups Elmer's White Glue
    • Liquid Water Color/Food Coloring
    • Glitter or a few drops of scent (optional)
  • Mix glue, water and optional glitter, scent and/or color until thoroughly combined.
  • Pour the contents of the small container into the large container.
  • Mix well using your hands. Break up the chunks of flubber between your fingers to incorporate all the liquid, and life and turn the mixture until it is fully combined. Good flubber will leave your hands and the bowl clean.

Notes.
  • If flubber sticks to hair, clothes or carpet, use white vinegar to clean it. The vinegar will completely dissolve the flubber.
  • Store in an airtight container and wash hands before and after using. The flubber will last for 3-4 weeks.
  • Scented Flubber can stimulate even more senses! Try out peppermint, lavender, or whatever smell our child likes best--but use sparingly.

A few pictures and ideas to play:

Potato Masher, Spiders (look how cook the imprint is!) and play dough tools from Lakeshore Learning.

My boys loved pretending to cover their animals with blankets. It was so fun watching the flubber ooze over the animals. Super easy clean up as well.

Stamping lion and and animal footprints in the flubber.

You can CUT flubber with these play dough scissors from Lakeshore Learning. You can roll it and make imprints OR cut it with any shape of cookie cutter! We used this pink flubber during our Valentine Theme.

Flubber also STRETCHES!

And STRETCHES!

Cut, Cut, Cut.

You gotta try making flubber THIS week!
