Letter B: Bird Craft, Bird Feathers Activity, Homemade Bird Feeder, Bird Tot Tray (Day 4)
1) B is for Bird from The Measured Mom: I love how our bird turned out. I showed my two where all the parts go, but he ultimately decided where to glue them on. You'll need:
- White, Blue and Orange Construction Paper
- Glue
- Feathers
- Goggly Eye
- NOTE: You can find all of these items at the Dollar Store
2) Bird Feathers Activity from Mama OT: We had a bunch of feathers left over from our craft, so we used them for a simple fine motor activity. "Uh oh! Our bird doesn't have any feathers! He might be getting cold. Can you add some to his body?" I want to add bird eyes and a beak to our colander. You'll need:
- Colander
- Feathers
3) Homemade Bird Feeder: My two was so excited to feed the birds breakfast! We hung our bird feeder on a tree branch right outside our window, and my two loved watching birds come and eat the seeds. Here's what you need:
- Pinecone (you could also use an empty toilet paper roll)
- String
- Peanut Butter
- Bird Feed (from the Pet Store)
- Tie the string onto the top of the pinecone.
- Use a spoon to smear peanut butter all over the pinecone.
- Use a spoon or your hands to stick bird seed onto the peanut butter.
- Tie the bird feeder onto tree branch outside your window.
4) Bird Tot Tray from Mama's Happy Hive: Tot trays are a so much fun and promote a lot of creativity. I saw this idea on pinterest and know my two would love it. Anything with play dough is a hit. We will use our Safari Backyard TOOB Animals for this activity. You'll need:
- Play Dough
- Items to Build a nest: Pretend Bird Eggs, Play Birds, Twigs, Grass, Yarn, Paper Shreds, Green Moss, or anything you can think of!
- Sorting Tray (Optional) - I found one at the Dollar Store
- Talk about how bird make nests. You could google a youtube video or go outside and search for bird nests nearby.
- Let your child go to work and build nests. Let them be creative and do things their way.
