Korihor & Counterfeit (Alma 30 - Come Follow Me)

Image
Watch the  Video Tutorial  @newswithnaylors Korihor and Counterfeit. Our at home church lesson very inspired by  @meckmomlife   • • • 1️⃣ Read the story of Korihor (we read from the Illustrated Book of Mormon). Talk about the false teachings of Korihor and how some believed, but others recognized the false teachings. Alma recognized the false teachings and taught Korihor signs/evidence of a God: the prophets, scriptures, and our surroundings (seed growth/planets perfectly revolving). 2️⃣ Ask your children if they want $20. Give one a real $20 and the other a fake $20 you’ve made. Talk about the differences in how they feel and look. 3️⃣ Watch Treasury Video . Sometimes bills can look very similar, but one is real and one is counterfeit (or fake). The U.S. Treasury has put in a lot of safety precautions for us to know the bill is authentic (like the watermark). Hold bill up to the light to see the watermark. 4️⃣ Heavenly Father, the scriptures and prophets always teac...

Summer Schedule 2020 (with three boys ages 6, 5, & 1)

Image
Watch our Summer Schedule in my highlights @newswithnaylors Free Download:  Summer Schedule PDF As much fun as it has been to go with the flow this summer, it is time to us to be back in a good routine. We are trying out a few new things right now, and they seem to be working really well. I love feeling more productive and adding more purpose into our day. We try to include something spiritual, intellectual, active, individual and a connection time before bed every day, regardless of whether we follow the schedule or do a day trip to the coast.  ➤ 7:15 A.M. "Green Light!" One of the best things we have is this Stop Light Alarm Clock . We haven't needed this at all this summer with our late nights and waking up later than usual, but normally we use this stop light alarm clock. Why? Because, mom thrives on some alone time in the morning. Basically, you turn the alarm on at night at the clock turns red. Kids stay in their room when the light is red. It stays red through the ...

Fourth of July!

Image
Fourth of July For our morning scripture study, I couldn't help but read about Nephi's vision of the American Revolution from the Book of Mormon. 1 Nephi 13:13, 16-19. In the morning, I made these really cute Yogurt Pops to have for a dessert after dinner. All you do is mix food coloring into vanilla yogurt. You want to layer white, red and blue yogurt into this  cute popsicle mold with a turkey baster (or a small medicine syringe).  During the day, we read from our Magic Tree House Series about the American Revolution. I absolutely love these books. They are early chapter books and so educational. My boys (ages 6, 5) love them. The one of the left is an adventure book about two kids that can time travel in a magic tree house. The one on the right accompanies the book on the left, but is full of facts.  The adventure book:  Revolutionary War on Wednesday The fact book:  American Revolution Fact Tracker Before tubs, we played with these amazing Firework Sensory...

Bury OUR Weapons (Anti-Nephi-Lehis)

Image
From Blue Skies Ahead: "First up, we re-read the story of Ammon to the kids.  We focused on how when they joined the church of Christ, they were completely changed.  So much in fact, they even changed their names, so they could be set apart from the other Lamanites.  We taught the kids how the Anti-Nephi-Lehies promised Heavenly Father that they would never shed blood again, and buried all of their weapons of war so they would never be used again.  They made a covenant with Heavenly Father, and even when they were being attacked by the wicked Lamanites, they would not break their promises.  Then I asked the kids what the opposite of war was.  They weren't sure, so we discussed that the opposite of war is peace.  I asked if we had wars in our house...they all yelled "NOOO!!"  Then we talked about how we may not have physical wars in our home, but we do have situations that keep us from having true peace.  And we all have different "weapons" th...

Magnetic Slime (Summer Bucket List!)

Image
Click for a  Video Tutorial  @newswithnaylors Magnetic Slime! This activity was a winner at our house!  A couple safety items: ⚠️This slime is NOT taste safe. ⚠️ Only use ONE neodymium magnet at a time. The magnet is so strong, it could easily pinch little fingers. Keep away from any other magnets. • • • In a bowl add: 1/2 cup Elmer’s Glue 1/2 cup water Stir to combine. • • To the bowl add: 1/2 cup iron oxide powder Stir to combine. • • To the bowl add: Add 1/2 cup liquid starch (found in laundry isle at the grocery store). Stir to combine. It will start to thicken immediately. Keep stirring until it no longer sticks to the side of the bowl and a ball forms. If there’s extra liquid in your bowl, transfer the slime to a new bowl. Rest 5-10 minutes to allow the slime to come together.  • • While one child played with the magnet, the other would use play dough stampers/scissors or plastic toys to play with his slime. My baby played with some taste safe play dough. If ...

Ice Cream in a Bag!

Image
Click here for a  video tutorial  @newswithnaylors Ice Cream in a Bag! This was such a fun summer activity to do with my kids. Add some red and blue berries for a July Fourth treat! • • • • Add to a sandwich sized (small) baggie: 1 cup half and half 1 tablespoon sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla Remove air and zip closed. Double bag it (so salt doesn’t get into the ice cream when you open it) and set aside. • • • Add to a gallon sized (large) bag:  Ice (from an entire ice box) 1/4 cup rock salt Zip closed and shake until combined. • • • Open up the large bag and place the small bag inside. Zip closed and shake for 5-8 minutes. The bag will be really cold, so put on some mittens or cover the bag with a dish towel while you shake. You can push at the ice-cream to feel when it thickens. Enjoy!
