Week 25: Repentance

Image
I'll be honest. Our morning meetings haven't really happened in the past few weeks. Instead, we combine everything into one family home evening lesson in the evening. On a side note, this was one of my very favorite family home evening lessons. My boys especially loved the object lesson. How does it do that!?  Download Here:  Repentance PDF What is Repentance? We started our night by talking about what repentance is - a change to do better. Repentance is a good thing, because it helps us feel better and draws us closer to Heavenly Father. We talked about three steps of repentance - recognizing our mistake, saying sorry and fixing it, and trying our best to not do it again.  Scripture & Picture. We read from Luke about the two thieves who were crucified with Jesus. The second thief recognized his wrong doings on the cross and started to repent. We must repent to live with Jesus again. Repentance Object Lesson: We learned about a girl, named Sar...

Week 24: The Sacrament

Image
We are doing things a little differently now! I am still planning on doing a blog post with pictures, but the PDF file includes a lesson plan now. The writing in pink are prompts for a parent to use and everything is included there - including a song and recipe for a treat. Here's a preview of the lesson plan.. Sacrament PDF Morning Meeting: The Last Supper. Hold up the picture and read verses in Luke about the Last Supper. FHE: 1) Review morning meeting with dad. 2) Sacrament Book. Children go through pictures and learn about symbolism of the sacrament (how they relate to Jesus) and stories of Jesus. The pictures/stories are the perfect size to cut out (optional: double sided printing) and put into a 4x6 photo album. I purchased two albums on Amazon for $8 and my kids helped me assemble the book. You can also simply staple the photos together into a book. Place the book in your church bag and pull it out each week during the sacrament. I really love this id...

Download Lesson for Free:  Holy Ghost Camping Adventure PDF Morning Meeting (John 14:26-27; 15:26; 16:13-14). Hold up the picture of the Last Supper (found in my PDF). Explain that during the Last Supper, Jesus taught his disciples many things. He taught them about the sacrament, serving others and the Holy Ghost. Read or summarize the verses above about the Holy Ghost. Write down characteristics of the Holy Ghost on a piece of paper as you read the verses. Family Home Evening: 1) Teach dad about our morning meeting.  2) Camping Adventure. We are going to have a bag packed of "camping essentials" and head to our back yard to learn about the Holy Ghost. You can either use actual camping items if you have them or you can print a picture of them from my Holy Ghost (camping) PDF. Once we're in the back yard, we're going to go through each of the items and talk about how it relates to the Holy Ghost. For example: Tent: Protects us Sleeping Bag: Comf...

Week 22: Helping Others

Image
Helping Others PDF Morning Meeting (Matthew 25:34-46). Read or summarize these verses and emphasize verse 40: "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." We talked about how Jesus lives in heaven and isn't able to be on earth to help everyone, so it's our job to help others. When we help others, we are also helping Jesus. Give your children specific examples of when they have helped each other and explain that it is also helping Jesus. It makes Jesus happy when we help others. Family Home Evening: 1) Tell dad about our morning meeting. 2) Service Chutes & Ladders. Ask your children their favorite way to help others. "What is your favorite way to help mom?" or "What is your favorite way to help your brother?" Print this game in my Helping Others PDF (link at bottom of post). Roll a die and move accordingly. If you land on a space with a ladder, talk about what your pl...

Week 21: My Body is a Temple

Image
My Body is a Temple PDF Morning Meeting (Matthew 21:12-13 "Jesus Cleanses the Temple"). Read the verses together while showing the picture. Add any additional information you'd like. I had to research this story a little bit to understand it better. Basically, people from all over came to Jerusalem for the Passover. They needed a lamb/goat to sacrifice and a lot of people would plan to buy them in Jerusalem, because of the long journey. The "thieves" as Jesus calls them knew this and exchanged money in the temple for an unfair rate and sold the lambs and goats for much more than what was fair. It was dishonest. The temple is meant to be reverent and a house of prayer. Jesus made the "thieves" leave.  Family Home Evening: 1) Tell dad about our morning meeting. 2) Taking Care of Things. My boys loved this. We went through the examples (the "taken care of" picture first, followed by the "not taken care of" pi...

Week 20: Marriage

Image
Print: Temple Marriage PDF Morning Meeting: None. Family Home Evening: 1) Mark 10:6-8. Read the verses about marriage in the scriptures and talk about WHY we are married in the temple. (It's a commandment, it shows our love and obedience to Heavenly Father, it's necessary to obtain the highest level in the Celestial Kingdom, we make covenants, we're sealed and live as a family forever). Show your children a picture of a sealing room (found in PDF). 2) Show your children pictures and talk about memories of your wedding day and temple marriage. Explain why you chose to be married in the temple and how it has blessed you. 3) Activity Options: Play Families are Forever (to the tune of the Farmer in the Dell) from  Natalie's FHE Spot . You can print a picture of the Salt Lake Temple in my PDF.  In a circle or line sing: (Daddy stands in the middle with picture of temple) Fam'lies are forever, Fam'lies are forever, hi-ho the temple-o...

Week 19: The Ten Lepers (gratitude)

Image
Print Here:  Ten Lepers PDF Morning Meeting (Luke 17:11-19 "The Ten Lepers") Hold up the picture below (included in PDF - link at the bottom of the post) and either read the verses from the scriptures or read the summary included. You can use double sided printing to print the summary on the back of the picture. Talk about the importance of saying "Thank You." Another option would be to watch the video from LDS.org. Family Home Evening: 1) Tell dad about our morning meeting. 2) M&M Gratitude Game. We did this activity back in January, and my boys loved it so much we are going to do it again. Show them the M&M Gratitude Printable (included in PDF). Gather a bunch of mini red m&ms in your hand and go around in a circle each saying a PERSON you're grateful for. You can go around the circle once, twice or more. For each person they name, they get a red m&m. Continue for the remaining colors. I love hearing my children's answe...

Week 18: Jesus Heals a Blind Man

Image
Morning Meeting (John 9). I think the Bible Videos on LDS.org are so powerful. For younger children, you could even watch the first half of Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind  (until the man receives his sight). I've also included a very simple version of the story you can print in my PDF. Family Home Evening: 1) Tell dad about our morning meeting. 2) Blind Fold Game. Wrap a blind fold over your children's eyes and have them try to walk to different places. Focus on how hard it would be to not be able to see. Ask them if they would like to be blind.  Picture found on Google 3) Spirit Eyes Object Lesson. Jesus often relates things from our physical bodies to teach us something about our spiritual bodies. You can either buy brown play dough (most likely at the Dollar Store) or make this AMAZING, easy, super soft home-made version. All you need is flour, salt, cocoa powder, cream of tartar, oil and water. Recipe and instructions are found in my PDF....
