Letter X: Xylophones: Craft, Size Order & Color Sorting Activity, Rainbow Xylophone (Day 5)

Image
Xylophone Craft : After watching a Youtube video of someone playing a xylophone, we made the xylophone craft below. I would do a line of glue (to show Easton where to glue the pieces) and have Easton glue down the pieces himself. I let him decide where he wanted each of the colors. I thought it was so cute watching him pretend to play his xylophone with the mallets (picture one). Notice how we glued the mallets to make an "X" (picture two). Again, we hung this picture on the fridge to remember our letter this week. Xylophone Size Order & Color Sorting Activity : This activity teaches so many great things! I've been saving toilet paper and paper towel rolls for the entire month. I cut the rolls into different sizes and had Easton order them from smallest to biggest. Then he helped me tape strips of colored paper onto the toilet paper/paper towel rolls. You have to make sure the strips of paper you choose match the colors of pom poms you have. After taping on the ...

Letter A: List of Supplies

I have really enjoyed doing a Letter of the Week series with Easton! He has LEARNED so much and we have had a lot of FUN along the way. I have loved having a variety of activities to do at home, especially when we felt stuck inside during the winter months. I started the series when Easton was 18 months old, which is also about the time I had another baby. It was so nice having a few things planned to do with Easton each day, while my newborn napped at home in the morning. Between holidays and my energy level in finding and planning activities, it took me almost a year to complete the series. I am now putting together a list of supplies for each letter to save other moms the hassle of doing it! A lot of the items listed below you will buy once and be able to use for multiple letters in our  Letter of the Week Series . For instance, the plastic sensory bin you'll only buy once, although you will use almost every week. The options are endless for what you'd like to do with your c...

Father's Day

Image
Prayer: Song: " Daddy's Homecoming " - page 210 from the Children's Songbook. Father Visual #1 (Heavenly Father) : This is a picture of Heavenly Father . We lived with Him in heaven before we came to earth. He is the Father of our spirits. He is real and loves us very much. He wants us to be loving and kind to others. Ask, "How can we talk to our Heavenly Father?" Discuss the importance of prayer and how Heavenly Father listens to our prayers. Father Visual #2 (Earthly Father) : Heavenly Father sent us to earth with loving parents. Ask, "Who is this a picture of?" Dad is the father of our earthly bodies. Dad loves you very much and loves when we are kind and help others. We can show dad we love him by giving him loves, playing with him, and being nice to our siblings. Add any other examples or a story of a time dad showed love to children. I printed and hung this picture up on the fridge as a reminder of our lesson this week and wha...

10 Basics for Implementing Positive Discipline

Image
When I was little and asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my response was always "a mom". It has always been my dream and now I am living it. I have two little boys, who I adore. Easton will be three in September and Connor turned one in May. Before having children, I always knew I wanted to discipline (teach) them well and in a positive manner. However, I don't fully understand "how" this can be done. I have had moments of frustration (and lack of sleep!), where I've made mistakes and quickly realized I need to respond in a different way. My good friend, Holli, recommended "Positive Discipline - The First Three Years" as a starting point. I checked it out from the library as a quest to improve myself as a mom and as a teacher. One chapter talks about 10 basics for implementing positive discipline, which I want to remember for myself and share with you today: 1) Create a connection before a correction : Helping children feel a sense of...
