Letter U: Unicorn Craft. Unifex Activities

Image
Unicorn Shape Craft : I love this craft! Easton identified shapes as we glued them together and he helped me hole punch and string yarn through the holes to make hair. Easton played with his unicorn around the house for a while afterward.Click here for a  tutorial  from Sugar Aunts. Unifex Sort by Color : We did a lot with Unifex Cubes today! I chose five colors to sort. I presented the divider tray with one unifex cube in each section and Easton sorted the remaining unifex cubes. See picture below. This idea and most others below are from the Letter U Math Section on the measured mom blog. Unifex Counting Towers : We didn't do this, but I love this idea from Kindergarten Smarts  (see picture below). Identify the number and build a corresponding tower. Unifex Numbers (comparing sets) : This activity didn't last long. Easton placed the unifex cubes on their correct color and we made towers to see which one was taller (or had more cubes). We'd then count th...

Letter P: Porcupine, Pom Poms, Pouring, Patterns, Playdough (Day 5)

Image
We had extra time today, so we did a few more things than normal. Today was a lot of fun! Easton was so interested, we spent over an hour and a half doing these activities. The following ideas are all from the Letter P activities on the Measured Mom blog. Prickly Porcupine : We watched a little youtube video on porcupines today, so Easton knew what they looked like and about their quills. Afterward, we glued our porcupine body onto a piece of white card stock and used a plastic fork to stamp brown paint onto our porcupine. Click the title "Prickly Porcupine" for a tutorial. (Easton's Porcupine) Pom Pom Painting & Color Sorting : There are so many ideas online of activities to do with Pom Poms . I bought a set from the Dollar Store and we used them to paint today (see first picture below). We used a clothes pin to hold the pom pom in place. Next, we did a color sorting activity with pom poms. I found a set of colored bowls at Ikea and they happen to match ...

1)  Tissue Paper Duck  from The Measured Mom: I thought this craft is adorable. You can find and print a  duck outline by clicking on the title "Tissue Paper Duck". You could glue on white feathers instead of tissue paper if you'd like. Here's what you need: Yellow Construction Paper w/duck outline Goggly Eye Orange Beak White Tissue Paper - we bought ours at the Dollar Store Elmer's Glue 2) "Where's the Duck?" Color Game: I think Easton will love this game! You could use this activity with a magnet board or flannel board, but it would be just as fun on the floor. You'll need: Paper Duck Cut Out Colored Paper or Colored Flannel Sheets (choose 6 or more different colors to review) Black Marker Use a marker to draw a barn on each piece of colored paper - it can be a simple door and window. Lay the barns on the floor and hide the duck under one of the barns, without your toddler watching. You can lay out two barns or as man...

Letter C: Coin Piggy Bank, Coin Activities, Pretend Play Grocery Store (Day 2)

Image
1)  Coin Piggy Bank from Frogs, Snail & Puppy Dog Tails: Both my toddler boys loved making a sticker piggy bank! Decorate an empty puff's container, or any empty container, with stickers. We used peppa pig and letter C stickers (made from contact paper) and cut a small slit in the top to put coins into. 2) Coin Activities: There are so many great learning activities to do with coins. Insert Coins into a Piggy Bank Coin Sorting from The Measured Mom: I brought out our coin jar and showed my two all the coins. We talked each of the coins and discussed similarities and differences between them. We also put them in order from smallest to biggest. Start by sorting groups of two - big and little coins or silver and copper coins.  Build Coin Towers: Stack as many coins as you can on top of each other.  Counting Coin Identification Book  from The Measured Mom. I thought this little book was a great introduction to coins. There are three versions ran...
