Letter J Songs & Rhymes

1) Jack and Jill.
  • Option One: With actions.
Jack and Jill went up the hill
(walk in place)
To fetch a pail of water.
(pretend to pull a rope up from a well)
Jack feel down
(sit on ground)
And broke his crown.
(touch both hands on your head)
And Jill came tumbling after
(roll arms, as if tumbling)
  • Option Two: Act out the song. We put a bucket at the top of the stairs as we re-enact the rhyme. Optional: Dress up wearing a crown (as shown below as a part of our letter J activities this week) and any other costumes you have available.

2) Jelly Bean Song.

  • Jump up and down while singing this song. Optional: Add hula hoops to jump in and out of.

Jump, jump little jelly bean
Inside, outside, in between
Jump, jump little jelly bean
Jump so you can be seen.

Tune: Skip to my Lou

3) Jack be Nimble.
  • Option One: Do the actions from slideshare.net (shown below).
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack jump over the candlestick.

  • Option Two: Print a candlestick clip art and tape it onto a cereal box. Have your children sing the rhyme and jump over the candle stick on the word "jump". If you have a balance beam, kids could walk across the balance beam and jump off and over the candlestick on the word "jump."

4) Down in the Jungle.
  • Option One: Use toy jungle animals (or print some here) while you sing this song. Place the jungle animals in a paper bag. Whichever animal is chosen, use in the song. Click here for the tune.
Down in the jungle where nobody goes,
There's a great big (crocodile) washing his clothes.
With a (snap, snap) here and a (snap, snap) there,
That's the way he washes his clothes.

  • Option Two: Hide jungle animals in jello (ours are in gelatin pictured below) and let your kids excavate the jungle animals. Sing the song as you go, or as your child pulls an animal out of the jello.
