Apple Farmer Annie by Monica Wellington: This book is about a farmer, named Annie, who owns an apple orchard. Children learn how Annie picks and sorts apples by color, uses them to make apple pie and apple sauce, and sells them at a market.
Ten Red Apples by Pat Hutchins: This book is about a farmer who has ten apples on his apple tree. One by one the apples get taken away by a farm animal. This book teaches farm animals, animal noises, numbers and an introduction to subtraction. Both my kids (3 & 1) loved this book.
Hey, Little Ant by Phillip and Hanna Hoose: This book is about about a boy who is about to squish an ant with his shoe! We learn about an ant's thoughts and perspective - it makes you think twice about squishing ants.
The Lady with the Alligator Purse by Nadine Bernard Westcott: This book is about a baby that eats too many bubbles and feels sick. Quick! Call the doctor, call the nurse, call the lady with the alligator purse. You'll love what the lady with alligator purse gives the boy to make his tummy feel better!
There's an Alligator Under My Bed by Mercer Mayer: We love reading about this boys imagination and what he does to get the alligator out from under his bead. Both my boys love this book.
A Plane Goes Ka-ZOOM by Jonathan London: This book has short words on each page (it's a quick read) and teaches about all the things airplanes can do. "A plane carries people. A plane carries pets. A plane carries trucks. And a plane carries jets." It's a cute rhyming book.
Ten Apples Up On Top! by Dr. Seuss: The animals in this book have a contest to see who can carry more apples on top of their heads. I love the rhyming and creativity throughout the book. Although this book is a little longer compared to others in the booklist, my kids couldn't keep their eyes off the book while I read it to them. Available: Ten Apples Up On Top! story time.
Alligator Alphabet by Stella Blackstone: I like having a book each week that reviews all the letters in the alphabet. This is one of them. Each page has a letter of the alphabet and an animal that starts with that letter. It's a fast read and a cute rhyming book.
A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead: This book is about a zookeeper, named Amos, that loves to take care of animals at the zoo. One day Amos gets sick and can't go to work. The animals decide to go to Amos' house and take care of him, the same way he takes care of them. This book teaches about kindness and reciprocation. Both my boys love the animals and "popping" a balloon on each page.
