Directed Art vs. Process Art

If you want to teach your children ART, it's important to understand two different types of art: Directed Art & Process Art. Both options provide educational learning, but the goal in mind is completely different.

➤ What is Directed Art?

• Teacher Directed
• Step-by-Step
• Follow Directions
• All projects are similar
• Focus: The Outcome

➤ How does Directed Art benefit children?

• Following Directions
• Listening Skills
• Skills that translate to their own work

➤ Directed Art Options:

1. Art Hub for Kids: Art lessons for free on Youtube. These are amazing, and the teacher is great with kids. My five and six year old request to do these every day.

The next options are from a website called: Teachers Pay Teachers. You need to create a free account to access the following links...

5. How to Draw Bundle (left): This is the bundle I shared on my instagram account @newswithnaylors
6. Alphabet Directed Drawing (center): This set has the option of drawing and a writing page below.
7. Directed Drawings for the Entire School Year (right): This option has seasonal and monthly directed drawings for the entire year.

➤ What is Process Art?

• Child Directed
• Choice Driven
• Child’s experience/creativity
• Final project is unique
• Focus: Creation (process) of the Work

The parent/teacher provides the supplies and allows children to explore on their own.

➤ How does Process Art benefit children?

• Child Expression
• Creativity
• Cognitive skills to predict, plan and problem solve

➤ Process Art Options:

Magic Puffy Paint: This paint is amazing and a must try activity. You make it in a blender and pour it into squeeze bottles. Kids "paint" with it and then you microwave it! It dries and puffs up. My boys have spent hours creating with Magic Puffy Paint! Same supplies, but see how different these all turned out?

"Bee" Forgiving Bee: This was a tape resist craft we made as we learned about forgiveness. I love how different all of they turned out.

Magic Nuddles: I provided the supplies, explained how to use the nuudles/rules (dip them in water and they stick together) and let my kids explore. They are completely different!
