We hopped on our "at home plane" and headed to France! Here's what our magical day looked like:

➤ FACTS: On the “plane ride” to France, go through this France Mini Book”. You can color the book, trace the words, or just read from it. Afterward, pass out some plane snacks while you watch these short video clips. There are a few options to choose from:

The Eiffel Tower from Freeschool

The Palace of Versaille (watch from :39 - 3:11)

Arc de Triomphe (shows the underground tunnel)

Arc de Triomphe (watch from :17 - 3:39)

All About Claude Monet: End with this one as it leads into our next activity.

➤ ART: The Water Lily Pond by Claude Monet (Impressionism Art)

Claude Monet studied art in Paris, France. He painted with bright colors and fast exciting lines (which were against “art” rules back then). Monet wanted to capture a feeling or a moment. This style became known as Impressionism. He loved to paint outside and his favorite paintings were of nature, like The Water Lily Pond.

Show a picture of "The Water Lily Pond" and have your children create their own version of “The Water Lily Pond” using tape resist art for the bridge and acrylic paint. Video Tutorial @newswithnaylors

➤ SPORT: Tour de France Obstacle Course

Set up a bike obstacle course with sidewalk chalk and cones. If you’d like, you can have the children decorate their bikes with pipe cleaners, streamers, ribbons, balloons, or a number card. If you want a friendly competition, time the riders as they go through the obstacle course.

➤ MATH/SCIENCE: Construct the Eiffel Tower

Instead of watching The Eiffel Tower on the plane ride, you could watch it now instead. Using toothpicks and marshmallows, try your best to copy and assemble the Eiffel Tower. Make sure to show a picture of the Eiffel Tower as a guide. Grab out a measuring tape and measure the height and width of the tower. Note: Our marshmallows were too soft, so we ended up building an Eiffel Tower with Connetix Tiles.

➤ FRENCH PASTRY CLASS: French Palmiers

All you need is a Puff Pastry Sheet (thawed) and cinnamon sugar to make these delightful French pastries.

➤ DINNER: Crepes with Various Toppings

Make this crepe recipe and try out different toppings! Here are some options: Bananas and Caramel, Strawberries and Chocolate Sauce/Nutella, Whipping Cream, Maple Syrup, Jam, or a different topping of choice.

➤ MOVIE: Ratatouille.

The animated film, “Ratatouille,” is about a rodent who dreams of becoming a French chef. It is set in Paris and celebrates French culture.
