Letter F: Booklist
Fancy Nancy by Jane O'Connor: This book is about a little girl who loves everything fancy. She uses fancy words and loves to dress up. She is determined to help her family become fancy as well, by teaching a class about wearing dresses and looking fancy. Cute story.
The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss: We love all Dr. Seuss books! The rhymes, illustrations and creativity are amazing in all of his books.
Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathan London: My three still enjoyed this book this year, but last year it was an even bigger hit. This book is about a little frog who wants to go outside to play in the snow. However, every time he goes out to play his mother reminds him he is forgetting something to wear. My three enjoys the humor in this book.
Too Many Frogs! by Sandy Asher: This was one of my favorite books, because of the moral of the story. It's about a rabbit who lives alone, who enjoys his alone time reading and keeping things tidy around his house. One day a frog comes by and wants to listen to a bedtime story or two, eat a snack or three and lounge on a pillow or ten. Froggie shows up again the next night right around bedtime for the same thing, making a mess of Rabbit's house. Later in the week, Froggie shows up with his entire family at Rabbit's House ready for a story, snack and pillow lounging. Rabbit has finally had enough and tells Froggie he must go. But, when he sits down to read himself a story along, Rabbit realizes something is missing. He lets go of the mess and his alone time reading, and realized what's most important.
Over on the Farm by Christopher Gunson: This is a cute counting book that both of my boys (ages: 3, 1) loved. Anything dealing with farm animals is a hit around our house. This was also a favorite of mine.
Feathers for Lunch by Lois Ehlert: This book is about a house cat that ventures outside in hopes for some lunch. He passes many birds, but only catches feathers. This book teaches different names and kinds of birds and tress.
The Big Wide-Mouthed Frog by Ana Martin Larranaga: Another animal book that my boys both loved (ages: 3, 1). This story is about a frog that travels around asking other animals what their favorite thing is to eat. The frog then confidently remarks that he loves to eat flies. See what happens when he runs into an alligator, whose favorite thing to eat is wide mouthed frogs.
The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister: We own this book and my boys (ages: 3, 1) have always enjoyed reading it. It's about the most beautiful fish that isn't willing to share any of her scales. Because she isn't willing to share, the other fish don't want to play with her. The Rainbow Fish seeks advise from a wise octopus, who tells her that she'll no longer be the most beautiful fish, but will discover how to be happy. This book teaches of sharing.
Fish is Fish by Leo Lionni: This book is about a fish and a tadpole, who are the best of friends. One day the tadpole grows tiny legs and arms and decides to explore the world beyond the pond. When the frog returns, he tell the fish of the many wonderful things he's seen. The fish tries to follow in his footsteps, but realizes that land isn't what he expected. This book teaches friendship, even when we are different, and being happy with who we are.
The Birthday Fish by Dan Yaccarino: This book is about a little girl who only wants a pony for her birthday. Instead, she received a goldfish. This book teaches about finding happiness in the things we have.
Hooray for Fish! by Lucy Cousins: Both of my boys (ages: 3, 1) loved this book! The colorful and creative fish caught their attention. This book is about a little fish that introduces us to all of his friends. However, at the end the little fish teaches us who he loves the most.. his mom.
Firefighters! Speeding! Spraying! Saving! by Patricia Hubbell: Along with farm animals, firefighters are another favorite theme of my boys (ages: 3, 1). This book teaches about the many responsibilities of firemen in simple terms.
Firefighters A-Z by Chris L. Demarest: This is a firefighter book that teaches about different tools and jobs the firemen have, all while reviewing the alphabet. Each page has a letter (ie: A is for Alarm) and a picture.
