Letter X: Xylophones: Craft, Size Order & Color Sorting Activity, Rainbow Xylophone (Day 5)

Xylophone Craft: After watching a Youtube video of someone playing a xylophone, we made the xylophone craft below. I would do a line of glue (to show Easton where to glue the pieces) and have Easton glue down the pieces himself. I let him decide where he wanted each of the colors. I thought it was so cute watching him pretend to play his xylophone with the mallets (picture one). Notice how we glued the mallets to make an "X" (picture two). Again, we hung this picture on the fridge to remember our letter this week.

Xylophone Size Order & Color Sorting Activity: This activity teaches so many great things! I've been saving toilet paper and paper towel rolls for the entire month. I cut the rolls into different sizes and had Easton order them from smallest to biggest. Then he helped me tape strips of colored paper onto the toilet paper/paper towel rolls. You have to make sure the strips of paper you choose match the colors of pom poms you have. After taping on the colored paper, I stapled the rolls together and taped it onto our piano bench. Easton used his hand and tweezers (motor skill practice) to match the pom poms to their correct tube. I loved watching Easton's imagination as we did this activity. He was pretending the pom poms were "noodles" and the tubes were "people" he knew. The color sorting didn't last long, we was more excited about "feeding" everyone noodles, regardless of color. If you're interested in another xylophone size order activity, I really like this one from Craftulate.

Rainbow Xylophone: This activity was a lot of fun, and I already had all the supplies at home. Easton loved the different colors of water and hearing how each level of water created a different sound when he tapped on the glass. After playing for a while, he poured the water back and forth between the glasses. He loved watching the colors mix and change into a new color. Next time, I want to extend the length of this activity by bring out plastic cups, more water, more food coloring, more pouring, more mixing, and more fun!
