Prayer:

Song: Search, Ponder and Pray (CSB no. 109) OR Book of Mormon Stories (CSB no. 118)

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:15-16

Display a set of scriptures, and help the children become familiar with them by showing them the title pages of the Bible, the Book for Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. Invite a child to hold these books and ask them to listen for ways the scriptures help us as you read 2 Timothy 3:15-16:

"And that from child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."

Discuss the main points: The scriptures make us wise, all scripture is given by inspiration of God and they teach us how to be righteous. Heavenly Father has commanded prophets throughout history to write the truths that He reveals to them. We can learn these truths as we read the scriptures.

Teach your children how to handle the scriptures gently.

Scripture Truth Jeopardy:

This game teaches children an example of important truths and doctrine found in all four works of scripture. There are so many truths contained in the scriptures, but this lesson focuses on 12 of them (3 from each standard work).

Preparation: Print The Scriptures PDF using double sided printing on the scripture cards. Set up the game like Jeopardy either on the floor or on a large white poster board. An example is shown below.

How to Play: Have the children take turns choosing a card. Read the scripture associated with the card and ask what important truth is found in that scripture. Give hints if needed. Flip over the card to see a picture of the answer and praise your child for finding the truth in the scripture. Note: You don't need to read the entire verse. You can just read a small passage. For example, in the Article of Faith, you can simply read: We believe in being honest. Keep a tally of how many points the children earn. You can either add up all the points and if you have over 1500, you all get a treat. Or you get a treat for playing.

Can you think of any other ways that would be fun to use these cards?

Treat: At this time of year, we will offer a piece of Halloween Candy.

Testimony: Express your gratitude for the scriptures and share a time they have helped you in your life.
