Song: “He Died That We Might Live Again” - Children’s Song Book, page 65.

Object Lesson: The Glove Analogy

Put on a glove. Wiggle your fingers in the glove and talk about how your hand is making the glove move. Then, take your hand out of the glove. Talk about how the glove can no longer move. Then, put the glove back on and point out that the glove can once again move. Optional: Provide enough gloves for everyone and do this activity together.

Our hand represents our spirit and the glove represents our body. Before we were born, our spirits were alive and lived in heaven (hold up your hand and wiggle your fingers). When we were born, our spirits were given a body (put the glove on). Ask your children if they can move their hands. Ask them to show you. Then, ask them to move other parts of their body. Because your body can move, what does that mean? It means you have a spirit inside of your body.

When we die, our spirits leave the body (take the glove off). Your spirit goes to a place called the Spirit World and your body stays on earth (place the glove on the floor). Think of all the things you can do with your body. Do you think you would miss your body?

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:22.

(Optional: Hold up the picture of Jesus' Burial)

After Jesus died, His spirit went to the Spirit World and His body was placed in a tomb. After three days, His friend, Mary, went to the tomb to visit Jesus and realized His body was gone. Where did Jesus’ body go? His body wasn’t missing, but it was RESURRECTED. (Optional: Hold up the picture of Christ at the Tomb) This means that His body and spirit were joined together again. Jesus also made it possible for all of us to be resurrected (Put the glove back on your hand). This is a gift He gives all of us.

The apostle Paul wrote: “In Christ shall all be made alive.” What do you think this verse means?

Plan of Salvation:

Print and cut out the Plan of Salvation images provided in the PDF. Use them to teach your children about the plan - there's a page provided with what to say and when to put the images out. Focus on the resurrection and this gift Jesus gave us. Add any additional information you'd like - we ended up talking about baptisms for the dead when we got to the spirit world and went into more detail on a couple things.

Activity Options:

1) Coloring Page.

2) Teach your children about someone you know who has died and lives in the spirit world. Talk about your favorite things about them, what you learned from them or a favorite story. Celebrate this person by eating their favorite food or doing another activity to remember them. This week was really special for us, because it is my husband's father's birthday. He passed away over 26 years ago and it was great celebrating him the same day as we learned about the resurrection and Plan of Salvation.

3) Make Resurrection Rolls. These rolls are a great object lesson teaching children about Jesus’ resurrection and they are very tasty! Talk about the symbolism of each item as you make these rolls. Click the link for more details.

Testimony: Remind your children about how wonderful it is to have a body (a gift from Heavenly Father) and how lucky we are our bodies will be resurrected one day (a gift from Jesus).
