Temptation Family Night - Come Follow Me September
TEMPTATION FAMILY NIGHT
Items Needed:
- Mold (we use the same plastic cups from our recent faith family night. A bowl or silicone muffin tin will also work).
- Gelatin
- Raisins
- Tweezers
- Temptation PDF (*FREE* includes a detailed outline for the lesson)
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19. One of the greatest gift Heavenly Father has given us is agency - FREE CHOICE! We choose which toys to play with today, we choose our favorite color, we choose to be honest, and we choose to obey mom and dad. Sometimes in our lives we will have thoughts that will tell us to make a wrong choice - they are called temptations.
Story: Jonny's Temptations.
Use "Jonny's Brain Printable" and explain how amazing our brain is - it helps us think, create, memorize and keeps our heart beating. The raisins represent temptations. Read through "Jonny's Temptations" and add a raisin for each example. Remind your children that Heavenly Father will always help us with our temptations. Have your children take turns talking about each temptation and what they could do instead. Use tweezers (representing Heavenly Father) to remove the raisins.
Object Lesson: Brain & Temptation Dissection
Directions found in PDF. Bring the "brains" out and remind your children that the raisins represent temptation and the tweezers represent Heavenly Father helping us escape the temptations. Dissect the gelatin "brain" and remove all of the temptations. You may want extras, my boys loved these!
Coloring Page: I like having something to hang on the fridge during the week as a reminder of our lesson. We are planning on coloring it tomorrow. Boy and girl options available. Great for a primary class.
Review the principles taught in the lesson and tell a time you faced a temptation and how thinking about our choices and relying on prayer helped you.
